Can anyone tell me where I can find a list of standard rates?

Frances,

I read through this board to figure out what I wanted to charge.

You will get much info if you do that.

Use the orange search button to find msg #33325 and read the whole thread. Especially pay attention to a post by "Maureen" which is advice to new people.

Frances, check with your SoS for fees you are allowed to charge. In California, we can charge $10 per notarized signature whereas in Texas, for example, I think it is only $6. Am I correct Brenda? My advice to you is read, read and read some more. Know your state laws inside and out.

Also surf different notaries websites, some give their rates. When I started I did a lot of surfing to see what the going rate was for different things.

Missy Lulu's suggestion is a good one. I did the same thing when I first got into the business.
One additional suggestion I would make is to review at least 30 notary/ signing agent's websites for your region to get a good feel for the average going rate for travel, etc.....
Some notaries charge too little and some notaries price themselves out of the market.
You'll also get a good feel for how you want to structure your fees - will it make more sense for you to charge an "hourly" travel/ time rate or does a "per-mile" fee structure work better?
You will find a good fit - and Good Luck!

"Maureen" to Brenda/Tx. . .

All my life, I've answered to anything that begins with M: Maureen, Marilyn, Madelyn, Mavis, Margaret, Mary, Mary Ann, Mary Kate - someone even called me Mailene once. It was just easier, and I didn't like my name all that much anyway.

So I've let the 2 or 3 "Maureens" go by. This time, however, you have sent poor Frances off on a search for posts by "Maureen," and she is doomed to failure in her quest.

I'm setting the record straight. It's "Marlene."

But I've always wanted to be called "Arden."

Oh, I read it somewhere as an insecure kid who was called Maureen all the time, it sounded distinctive, strong, commanding - but not forgettable!

BelindaTx to Merlane and Francesca:

Frances and Marlene - I did not mean to butcher Marlene's name or to send you on a wild goose chase.

I deserve a wedgie for that. Sorry...very sorry.

Marlene- the name game

I just met "Maureen" at the retire+ment center a few weeks back and I think I was so impressed with her and her tales from Stewart Title of the 60's & 70's that I have been having heck switching.

At my new pt job, my name was Barbara for several days.

My ex-mother-in-law (delightful woman) called me "Linda" for two years after I met her. Never bothered me but it drove her son CRAZY.

I am impaired in the most critical area of my life right now however as I cannot remember my new DIL to be is AnGELa not AnDREa...thank goodness her mother is Andrea. OH thank goodness.

Here's a picture of the happy little couple, by the way...

What an attractive couple! Nice blue eyes on the hunk. . .er, I mean your son.

Believe it or not, I've been called "Brenda" before, too. I have such a difficult time with names and faces, I forgive anybody anything regarding same. . .
