signatures

I'm new at this so please be gentle with me. I had a signing today where the borrower signed, but the problem was you couldn't make out the letters to the name. Would this be a problem?

As the notary you were there to verify their identity. A lot of people have signatures that are unreadable. As long as the signature is consistant throughout the documents there should be no problems.

Depends on the county clerk so I have heard. I have seen some dandy and deluxe signatures from natural citizens and those who have come here from another country.

Some sigs look like a symbol.

I ask: does that say Jack A. Jackson? If they say "Yep." I make a note of it if I am worried on the return and say, "thank you!"

Re: signatures REST WELL

My observation is that the bigger the ego, either the more illegible or the bigger the signature.

My signature is quite legible.

Perhaps that is because it extends halfway across the page in inch-high letters.

That explains why doctors sign the way they do. But, I'm not one to talk. I've been told my signature looks like impressionist art.

Signatures... something to add...

In AZ it does matter how they sign. The signature MUST MATCH THE ID. Whether it is easily readable is beside the point... but the sig. itself must match on the ID, the notary book and the document.
