Beware from whom you get your info
I have been perusing the various notary/signing agent forums on the net. I can't believe what some people are trying to put out there as "notary law"!!!!! They obviously do not know their state notary laws, I question how they ever passed their test! Some of their answers are so wrong, it would be laughable, if not for the fact that someone is reading it and taking it as gospel!
So to the newbies out there, don't take what you read at face value.... read your state's handbook and business and professional code books. It's YOUR commission on the line, not theirs.

Thank you for the insight, I totally agree. I don't feel it would be wise to ask law related questions of anyone other than official Sec. of State literature or websites. No offense to those who are veterans, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Absolutely. And I don't think any vets should be offended.
Most preach the same thing. Don't take what you read on a forum as gospel.

Absolutely correct Patti Jo! And don't forget, not just you but everyone in CA, that we are notaries public first and foremost. If you know your CA State Notary Handbook backward and forward you cannot go wrong. Loan doc notarizations do not deviate from CA state notary law so you really can't do anything wrong if you follow your handbook. Don't do loan signings if you are not absolutely clear on your notary law. I'm sure you know all of this Patti Jo but so many of the questions that are knit-picked over every day on NR are generated by lack of knowledge about the most basic information that is available to everyone through your state notary handbook (except of course the couple of states that do not have a handbook... but they do have a SOS).

My thanks to everyone!
Everyone's input is very much appreciated. My mentor, who also happens to be my awesome Sister, told me this forum was good and she was right.

You are so right! Always double check any answers you are give on the notary forums.
I am more than qualified to answer Florida notary questions (I am a certified notary instructor and have taught many of the notary classes required to apply for a notary commission here), and when I respond to other state's notary questions I have usually looked it up in that state's notary handbook (I have every states notary handbook on my computer), but the laws may have changed since the handbook was issued, so I would hope that the responses would be double checked.
As you say it is the questioner's commission on the line.

I am also amazed at some of the questions asked. "if I use my jurat stamp, do I also have to stamp it with my notary stamp" -- Are you kidding me?????
"I'm in CA, when I finish with a journal, do I have to turn it in to the County Recorder when I start my next one?" -- again.... Did you take the class? How on earth did you pass the test???????????????
Stepping off my soapbox now.
