Brother printers consumable questions
How much would it cost you in drum replacement for having printed 200,000 pages? How many pages do you get per toner cartridge? and how much?

I have just had to replace a drum in a Brother HL 5140, after 1 1/2 years. I refill the toner, $12.95 + shipping (about $18) and one refill goes about 3000 pages. If I bought a new cartridge, that costs about $55 - $75 at Office Depot. I do that about every 5th time I refill.

I have a HL-5150 and for 200k pages, I would go through 5 drums at 40k pages each. I have bought $80 40k page drums and $40 20k page drums--all remanufactured or generic. Check on Ebay. I buy ink refills at tonerkits.com for about $18 including shipping which covers about 5k pages. Cartridges can also be refilled in my area at Cartridge World for about $35, and they'll change all the moving parts in the cartridge. I've never used them though. I just bought a new printer--different brand--so now I'll be using the Brother mainly as a backup.

Costs are about......
$2000 for 200,000 pages in drum and toner for my brother 5150D. About $.01 per page. How does that compare with HP and others.

Well, that's enough for me to say
at 200K pages, it would cost a Brother printer owner (not including cost of printer) approximately $500 in drum replacement $600 in toner (assume $15 per 5Kpg refilled)
HP printer do not require drum replacement but toner. My HP4100 average cost at 200K is a little less than $400 ($17 per 10Kpg refilled) plus a maintenance kit $200 is still only about 1/2 the cost of a Brother printer.
Are you making a wise longterm investment for your business?
