Help w/printing problem...

I have 2 signings tomorrow for IREP and they have started using Guardian....anyone familar with this? My docs are not printing correctly, even though I have downloaded their print utilities. My first one is at 10:00am and it is about an hour away. I am concerned that my printer is not right for this site...I have a HL-1440 and it says it is PCL4...I really don't even understand what that means, but when downloading the print utilities, it says that I must have a: Hewlett Packard HP4 or a PCL5e compatible printer. Now, I am not the brightest crayon in the box, but is this issue, do you suppose? Any way to get around it? Thanks for any help you can give me!!

No download from Paw's site will help if you dont have the right printer. You need a pcl6 compliant printer, and I think the one you have it is only pcl4.

I'm no techie...but you might try going to the HP site & see if you can download a different driver that is PCL5 or 6 compliant. It may even be on your computer now. Try to install a 'different printer' in Control Panel. It is also possible that the other poster is right and that your printer will not be more than PCL4 compliant, but I strongly urge you to give my suggestion a shot. It worked for me with an HP1100. Hope someone with more knowledge can help you.

No utility will help with your problem. Your printer is using PCL (Page Control Language) version 4 emulation, but the documents are designed to be used with PCL5e (version 5 enhanced). That's why they aren't printing properly.

I don't know if a PCL5e or PCL6 emulator is available for the HL-1440.

Well, for whatever reason, I got it to work! Actually, PAW, I re-downloaded the Guardian print viewer, as well as the Swiftview Viewer, from your website and after that...it worked fine! I had downloaded them directly from the Guardian website, but for whatever reason, they weren't "taking"..and who can explain the PCL discrepancy...but thanks for all your help!! I, at least, have my 10:00 signing docs ready!!

If you printed with Swiftview, you can use the "Windows Drivers" feature. It's a bit slower and does change some fonts in certain circumstances, but it does allow non-compliant printers that work with Windows to print the docs. (I don't remember if the GMD viewer uses the Windows interface instead of the raw PCL.)

GMD still have their own raw PCL platform, but have also incoporated Swifview as portal for windows interface in respond to certain clients request mainly due to the fact that some SA don't have PCL compliant printer.
