High School ID
I had an interesting signing last night. Called to sign a mother and son on a loan. When I called to confirm and make sure they had copies of ID, the mother said her son only had a high school ID. I asked how old he was and he's 18. I told her that I couldn't notorize with only a high school ID. She got upset because they got a copy of her ID and never asked about her son. Of course, every DMV is closed on Wed. evening and today. I call the Signing Co. tell them the situation. They say they are calling the title co. Get call back and tell me to use the high school ID. I tell them I can't. Then I get a call from the Title Co. They say I can use it. I asked them if that is legal in their state, (KS) and he says I don't know. So in the mean time I call the borrower and tell her they want me to use it but I can't. She tells me hold on, the signing co. is calling her and puts me on hold. She comes back on and tells me that they said they can find another notary that will do it tonight if possible. The borrower told me that she got mad and wanted me to do it because I was honest. That made me feel very good. I wasn't too pleased with the signing Co.
Needless to say, the signing is rescheduled for this Thursday and the borrower is getting an ID from the state. (Don't know why son doesn't have driver's license) The signing co. wrote me that I did the right thing. But they sure made me feel bad in the mean time. It made me feel good to stick to my guns. Just have to be careful because some people in these companies obviously don't know what is considered correct ID and will gladly put my career and integrity on the line so they can get their loan signed. Has anyone else been asked to use a high school ID?
