Stephanie, Re: How do I become a Mobile Notary?
A "Mobile Notary" is a notary who is on "wheels". Meaning that, a notary who travels to a customer's location (i.e. home, business, school etc. . .) for a notarization.

Re: Stephanie, Re: How do I become a Mobile Notary?
I know what it is. I was just wondering what I had to do to get started. I am already a notary, so do I just start signing up with companies? I worked as a paralegal before I had my girls, now I am a stay at home mom and thought it would be neat to do something like this. We just refinanced our house and the notary who came out was telling me about it. It caught my attention quick.
Thanks!

Stephanie, you might not like the reply but Pamela told you
the extent of the job. You get in your car, you charge for the trip and voila! YOU are a mobile notary. I don't knwo why people have to make things so complicated. That is all there is to it! Of course it helps of you know the different loan documents. Yes, start signing up with companies! I'm sorry its not rocket science!

First of all, thank you to everyone who replied to my question. With the exception of Charles Ca. I appreciate it.
Second, Charles Ca, I do not know what post you read that had an attitude, but it was not mine. People like you make me sick and should not be allowed to post. There was NO REASON for the responses you sent me. If you feel the need to be a jerk, do it on someone elses post. NOT MINE! Now, you can say I have an "attitude".

Stephanie, don't be too hard on Charles.. He's a good guy
sometimes he hides it well. But if you read between the lines you'll come up with some good stuff... You've been given some good advice. Read the post mentioned a couple of times in this thread. It's loaded with good information. You have a good head start in that you're already a notary. It isn't rocket science but it isn't always as simplistic as that statement implies either. If we mess up it could create big problems for the borrowers and potentially cost them big bucks as well....So good for you for asking questions and working to gain the knowledge needed to be great at what you do! Stay around feel free to ask away... You'll get answers... Compare what is said to what you know and what is in your states manual and you'll be fine. Don't sweat the small stuff and don't take things personally. This board is exactly what you need to learn how to deal with the many, many personalities you will come across in the borrowers you will serve. As far as the mortgage docs go if you've purchased a home pull out your docs and read through them. Ask family members if you can read through theirs and my best advice is to purchase the Signing Registry manual and go through paws website!
Good Luck! I look forward to reading your posts and hopefully learing a thing or two from you in the future... "smiles" Poppy

There wasn't a hint of attitude in the posts that you chastised her about. She didn't make your point, your comment created a situation where she would likely, and rightfully, respond with attitude. I think she should have told you to stick your attitude up your ass, personally
If you wanted to chastise her for anything, you should have chastised her for the question itself and her not reading the big yellow box that appeared when she made her post, the one that said not to ask questions like "how do I get started".

Re: Stephanie- As Charles mentioned it is not Rocket Science
Stephanie You got some good replies. You asked how to become a Mobile Notary. A Mobile Notary, as has been said, is a notary who travels to the client to notarize the document in question. I am a mobile notary and charge my state's allowable charge for the notarization plus a reasonable travel fee. I am also a loan signing agent, which is, I believe, what you really meant. Someone indicated the message number of the post that will help you the most. That post will be the most helpful to you in knowing how to be a loan signing agent.

Was not reading the message that appeared on your screen, highlighted in yellow, when you made your initial post. It said:
Important Notice If you are going to ask a question, please consider consulting the Search feature before doing so. Many questions have been asked and answered repeatedly on this forum by expert notaries: Should I buy a laser printer? • What are e-docs? • What is a signing agent? • How much should I charge? • How do I get started? Answers to questions like these are just a few clicks away!

You are right. I should have read before I posted. I just did not see it. My mistake.
On the other hand. I realize that people get ill when someone posts something that has already been posted and replied to 100 times, BUT if you feel that way then just do not reply to the post. It is that simple. There is no need for people to be ugly. Just do not reply to it.
And, thank you for the "Give me a break" response.

But don't mind Charles, he's a blowhard and a bonehead. He'll occasionally contribute something helpful, you just have to dig through a lot of self righteous windbagging to find it.

"Mobile Notary" versus "Notary Signing Agent"
Let's be clear: The description of "Mobile Notary" as presented was extremely clear. Put on rollerskates, ride a bike, drive a car, take a train, and you've become a Mobile Notary.
A Notary Signing Agent is a whole 'nother thing entirely. Think about becoming a Notary Signing Agent only AFTER knowing your state's notary rules and laws inside and out and having quite a few vanilla notarizations in your journal.
Becoming an NSA takes a lot of effort to learn the documents. Take a course, such as The Signing Registry offers. Only after you've studied should you think about advertising your services as an NSA.

Re: "Mobile Notary" versus "Notary Signing Agent"
Thanks to all who have provided me with great information. I never intended to have an argument going on this site. I just asked a simple question. I did not want sarcastic comments or rude responses. I wasn't being ugly, I did not expect anyone else to be.
I was not aware that there was a difference in a mobile notary and a signing agent. I just refinanced my house and the lady told me to do a search for mobile notary if I was interested in doing what she done. So, that is what I have done. I think I have enough information to get started.
Thanks again to everyone!

On behalf of all, you're welcome!
There is a lot of confusion about the differences among "Notary Public", "Mobile (or Traveling) Notary Public", and "Notary Signing Agent". Some of us are not happy with those designations and want to use others instead.
There are a lot of "certifications" out there on the Web. Do your research before falling for the hype.
Good luck!

You do realize that she is
your direct competition and unless she was completely stupid she wouldn't have said any more than she did. The best advice you got in this thread are 2 things. 1.Use the orange search button before posting a ? Even many of the not so basic ?'s already have lots of info on them. 2.Read the thread starting with #33325. Have you read 33325 yet?
You see when you come in and ask what you did without researching at first you will be considered "lazy" by the members of this forum. You asked a simple question that has been asked and answered. All of the info you need and more is here if you look for it. In fact the replies you got were pretty mild. Get a thick skin if you want to survive in this business. You are better off getting a straight forward blunt correct answer to your question than some candy coated don't want to hurt your wittle feelings answer. Lastly don't take things personally. Good Luck.

I am not taking it personally. You do not have to be rude regardless. Like I said in my previous post, I did not see where you had to "research" it first and if you do not like the question I asked, then don't answer it. This was the first website I came to, and posted before reading it all the way. Again, my mistake, but uncalled for with the rude responses. I have read the 33325 post and I am going from there with it.
Thanks again!

"Again, my mistake, but uncalled for with the rude responses."
That's the way it is on this board, a lot of us just call it as we see it.
You need to get over the "you're so rude" thing pretty quickly if you want to get anything from this board and stop telling us how we should or shouldn't respond to posts on here. If we're rude, we're rude, suck it up and deal with it like an adult. Which is, focus on the message, not the way the message is delivered.
It's a good skill to have in this industry because you'll have to deal with WAY ruder than you'll find on this board.

Sarah...if this is directed to me, yes, I realize she is competition, but you know what? I couldn't care less. I know that I am good at what I do, and have many companies that call me first because they know if I can't do it I will refer them to someone who can. I actually pass out work to those in my network. Here it is a group effort and yes, I make enough to call this a profitable business.

Her asking the sa that came to her house about the business. My comment was just a don't be surprised that you didn't get much info because the sa is going to look at her as newbie competition. Building networks of experienced sa's is an entirely different subject.
I just don't get her response to me at all when she used "you" towards me in her being rude comment. I wasn't rude at all. You know me if I intend on being rude there's no mistaking it. When I shoot flames I don't use a match, I bring out the torch. If she really intended to say I was rude she's got a rude awakening coming to her the first time she has to deal with a pushy lo at eom or a pizzed off bo looking at numbers that are nothing like they expected them to be.

Do you really want people in your network who are so inexperienced they don't even know that a signing agent is called a signing agent? Doesn't that kind of defeat the point of a network?
