How do I get started with IREP

I have signed up with IREP on their website. But how do I market myself to them to get them to use my services. I know some people that know, but they are being greedy with their info and I know that they have at least 3 Beneficial stores. Any help is greatly appreciated

generally, they like two years of experience. I was fortunate enough to get a call from them when I started this. In fact it was my first job. They let me have the assignment because of my background. Also, stop off a card to the B stores and introduce yourself. They can request you as a signer.

that's exactly how I got started too Charm. They were my first assignment and to this day my biggest client. It's so easy doing their closings. You walk in and the paperwork is all ready for you and when you leave all you have to do is fax your confirmation that it closed.

I am dumbstruck by this quote

"I know some people that know, but they are being greedy with their info and I know that they have at least 3 Beneficial stores."

Just how is it greedy to not share customer information about your competitors????? Enquiring minds would like to know

I did re-read the post and I did not feel that the greediness was on the part of anyone here, but rather at the IREP end and attempts to get connected at the Beneficial offices. Not all the greedy people in the world are on NR! Wink

Re: I am dumbstruck by this quote - read her post.

Merry, the way I read it was as the others took it too, that the people that were already doing 3 Beneficial Offices were greedy and would not share the information. Quote from origianal post: "I know some people that know, but they are being greedy with their info and I know that they have at least 3 Beneficial stores. Any help is greatly appreciated."

If this is a misunderstanding on our parts the original poster needs to clarify.

Let me clarify

This person that I know is doing closings for 3 of the area Beneficials around in my area. They could at least let me know how to get started. I have no intentions of trying to take their business. I would like to know how to get started with some other stores. There is plenty of work for all of us, no need to be greedy.

Re: Let me clarify

Let me clarify. NO, there is not enough work to go around and that is why people guard their contacts with an iron fist. You may say, you have no intention of trying to take their business, but I wouldn't want to take the chance and it sounds like they don't want to either. Two or three years ago it was relatively easy to make a decent living at this business, but that is no longer the case. Thanks to the NNA and others there is an ever increasing pool of notaries chasing an ever decreasing pool of signings. Sorry, but it has a tendency to bring out the sharks in the best of us.

The best advice I can give you is to read this board. Most if not ALL your questions will be answered here. It's like panning for gold, you sift a lot of sand, but when you find those gold nuggets they are priceless!

Re: Let me clarify - cbug

They are not being greedy. They are being wise.

They are protecting their business.

By telling you how to get started at Beneficial, they would be possibly pouring around $500 -/+ a month into your bank account rather than their own.

Re: Let ME clarify

Sorry, but if you are trying to "get started" by getting IREP work, it sounds to me like you have every intention of trying to take someone's business - whether it be from the people you know, or the business of whomever has the other "stores" you are interested in. That's just the way the business world works, but you usually have to earn it.

"There is plenty of work for all of us, no need to be greedy."

Maybe your area is very different from mine (well, actually almost everywhere is, since I'm in one of the most heavily saturated areas ;>Wink), but the fact is that there is less and less work for more and more SAs. One of the seasoned pros on some board - probably here - stated that "the pie is shrinking and there are more and more people at the table". [I wish I could remember who said it so well. Thanks to whomever you are!] And greed has absolutely nothing to do with it. For many of us, this is our full time profession. It's what we do to make a living, to eat and pay the bills. We've worked very hard to become skilled at what we do, to provide excellent service and develop our clientele.

This has become a very competitive business in most areas of the country (maybe yours is an exception??). Yet for the past couple of years, we have been incessantly bombarded by brand new SAs who just got their commissions coming here, asking for our help and then becoming indignant with us for not not simply handing over what we have spent years developing, or for not spoon feeding them answers to questions they could (and should) find on their own. And since this is a public forum pretty much open to anyone, if I post something to help you, it also helps my competition down the street, as well as that of many others.

We owe you nothing and you have little or nothing to offer us, so I recommend you not bite the hands that feed you. If, down the road, you find yourself with a sticky situation and want some expert advice, you MIGHT find it here - but only if you come with the right attitude and don't burn your bridges. There have been some notable newbie exceptions who have first made the effort on their own and realized they were asking for a favor - not an entitlement - and have been warmly received. However, even those people are not going to get client contact info from anyone with any sense - and they probably know better than to even ask.

This is not intended as a flame, but a sincere attempt at an attitude adjustment for the latest batch of you who are fresh out of a class and eager to "get started". You are trying to do that in a very tough market. My advice is to go back and read as much as you can from this and a few other select notary boards (which I won't mention here), then get busy applying to as many signing services as you can (you should probably shoot for 200-300) to get some experience under your belt. Even if you've had the best training available, your education has just begun and there is no substitute for real world experience. This is probably true in any field and ours is no different.

BTW, to address your original question... When I started working for IREP several years ago when they first came into CA, they required a year of experience and mandatory attendance at an all-day training class on their docs (different from most other lenders) and how they wanted them presented. Then you were supposed to do a mock signing for a branch manager to prove you had it down. (And to do signings in Spanish for them, in case anyone cares, they required passing a 30-minute telephone interview in Spanish, half of which was like a mock doc signing, to see if you had mastered the technical vocabulary.) That may not be necessary today, but if you want to work for them, go out and compete for the business like everyone else. jmo

Re: Let ME clarify

I was given the lead for IREP by someone here on the board and am very appreciative of it for the person knows I speak Spanish and thought of me. Because of my current limited schedule I have not followed up on it.

I will not forward that lead since I did not earn it myself it was given to me. When I do decide to share a lead that I earned I don't do it because someone simply asked me for it by stating that I am greedy and should share.

I got one better than that

Someone from this board offered me free luxury seat tickets to a Raiders game just for some simple advice. Can't top that:-)
