I almost lost my cool...

I'm in a loan signing last night around 10:30 pm, very nice borrowers, very nice home, everything is just peachy keen until we start looking at the docs:

They expected 30 yr. fixed, it's an arm w/ balloon
They expected 6.75% this ones 9%
They expected about $1000 a mo. payment, this one's way more.
They don't want to escrow, this one has escrow.
They expect about 10K back, this one has $2k back to borrower.

Mr. & Mrs. Borrower were obviously unhappy, while still managing to be quite pleasant.
I suggest a phone call to their lo... they call and after a few minutes of going over the details Mr. Bo hands the phone off to me.

Mr. LO starts screaming at me. WHY DON'T YOU JUST DO YOU F***ING JOB AND GET THE F***ING LOAN SIGNED.

I don't allow anyone to speak to me like this, and at this point I was ready to give Mr. Fancy Pants LO a piece of my mind, but I keep my cool and rather than forming a responce to his inquiry, I simply hit the "end call" button without saying a word.

I very politely thanked Mr. & Mrs. Borrower for their time, handed them a business card and told them I'd be very happy to come back and see them after they get the details of their loan worked out to their satisfaction.

Mr. & Mrs. Bo inform me that they had another deal in their back pocket and will be contacting the other company... and when it comes time to settle, they will INSIST that I am called for the signing...

PS- Spoke with the Title company this morning, informed them of the no-sign and the LO's behavior. My buddy at the title co tells me that I am the third notary this week that complained about this LO and that they won't be accepting any more work from this particular broker.

I haven't yet experienced anything that fierce, yet being the operative word. It's good you were able to keep your head level and not go off on the LO. Thanks for sharing, maybe I won't be surprised if that ever happens.

6 months ago I had the sister to your signing

Identical in every way! Called the LO and handed the phone to Mr. BO who was of Eastern extraction. He listened intently and said "I no want loan" and handed me the phone. LO states in a high shrill voice "we've got a communication problem. I'M NOT EVEN THE LO! I'M THE DAMN UNDERWRITER, I'm not making a dime on this, is there anything you can do"? Ummmm, no sir, I don't think so at this time. What are these guys thinking?????

As unpleasant as that broker is, I doubt the tc will

stop accepting work from him unless he's rude to them - too much $$$ involved. JB you are a cool cat. I definitely would have lost my cool. I actually got into somewhat of a little "discussion" with an LO a few months ago in front of the borrower after the he himself got into it w/him. Obviously, that was a no-sign. A few days later the LO had the cajones to call me back for a re-sign and was very nice about it. He even called me "buddy". Eventually the borrower rescinded but I still got payment for both trips which surprised me. This was direct from a brokerage firm.

It's great that you had such nice borrowers though.

That was a great example of self control JB, you might

consider going up that LO's chain of command. I've only had that happen once and the LO was fired the same day. It was obvious that the LO did not do his job and probably should not be doing it at all, I would help that along. Contact his broker and you might even want to call the lender and explain to them that it is a conflict of interest for you to be anything other than an impartial witness and the LO may have put the lender in an illegal situation. The LO is obviously scum and in today's climate will soon be learning a new script: "will you have fries with that?"

Interesting, I just had a signing tonight where borrower told me his LO said, "I don't have to explain anything to you A$$hole!" I feel bad for the company, but the borrower did report it. Good job controlling yourself, Jersey Boy.
