I just received the strangest email

There is no header. There is no indication from where it came. It lists the email addresses for hundreds for notaries beginning with K and ending at [e-mail address]. All the information was in the body of the message there was no attchment.

Did anyone else get it?

When I try to open the attachment, it locks up my Outlook Express. Anyone else have that problem?

Re: I received it too

Mine was not an attachment.

Mine says ....

<Please read and follow the instructions on the attached document regarding LandAmerica OneStop’s background screening process. All signing agents must pass a background screening in order to be eligible for future LandAmerica OneStop closings. >

My Outlook still locks when trying to open the attachment so....I just deleted the email. Don't care to pay to have a BGC done for notary work. If my BGC the AZ Dept of Real Estate did isn't enough, then I guess I won't be getting their work.

Re: Mine says the same but no attachment.

Re: background check. I am an ERO (electronic return originator) and an Enrolled Agent - (enrolled to practice before the IRS). I had to submit to 2 background checks for the IRS (one for each designation) last fall. If I am ok with the IRS I should be ok with SS!

Re: Mine says the same but no attachment.

I would think a State or Federal agencys BGC would be more through and accepted by title/lenders or SS. Have employees at LandAmerica had a BGC?

It opened for me

just a notice about not being able to do closings for LandAmerican unless you've got a background check on file. Attachment had somewhere to go to get one, $13 payable by CC. I've never worked for them but I guess I'm somewhere in their database.

Re: I can't help but laugh...

This whole BC thing boils down to GLB and privacy and yet someone just pressed a button and sent out a list of hundreds of email addresses to how many people?

Isn't that special!

yep yep, and if she only read the board she'd know

how to send an e-mail without anyone else being able to see the other names (TY Lisa)!

LandAmerica & BGC

I MAY have performed 1 signing for them ever, so I'm not jumping to complete this. Went through some of the information for ha ha's and found this:

"You hereby release the contracted agency, as custodian of such records, and such agency employees or personnel, both individually and collectively, from any and all liability for damages of whatever kind, which may at any time result to you, your heirs or assigns, family or associates because of compliance with or release of information pursuant to this authorization, except in the case of gross negligence."

For the times I've worked for them, I think I'll pass on their offer. Additionally, I don't think I should have to pay for background checks, period. I don't mind submitting to one, but I'm not going to pay for it -- kind of goes along the lines of paying someone in order to work for them...doesn't make sense.

My opinion only, of course.
