Interesting viewpoint

Did an out-of-state automobile title transfer recently, something I seldom do. This one was for a former general in the South Vietnamese Army. After the U.S. withdrawal, he was placed in a "reducation" camp for several years. Six times he tried to escape Vietnam after his release, but was always caught. He made it out on the seventh, and wound up in the U.S. Seems to be doing okay here, I assume because he squirreled away some graft money while the Vietnam was was still going on.

Anyway, he had an interesting take on what to do about Iraq; said we should free Saddam Hussein, apologize to him, reinstall him as head of the Iraqui government, and get the hell out. I think he may have been kidding, but I'm not sure; that Oriental inscrutability thing, you know. It was all the more interesting because later, on NPR, I heard some academic saying that whatever form the government takes, we should not be disappointed if it is not the democracy we envision. The instability there is so great, he said, and the experience with democratic government so limited, some authoritarian government is probably going to be essential to put the country back together.

I wonder if the Baker/Hamilton commission is thinking along those lines.

Oh come on! get a grip!... he forgot to put an uppercase ot infront of the message title .. that seems to make anything ok on this board lately.
I'm not agreeing or disagreeing w/Hugh, just saying we see a lot of "opinions" here - political or whatever - unrelated to notary work anyway.
So....

Yeah, and we jump all over Jihad's ass when he posts his political ramblings on here too.

Cali…

On those infrequent occasions when I visit NotRot nowadays, I make it a point to avoid reading your posts as soon as it becomes apparent that you are in one of your recurrent pissy moods. In that you have judged all that I have to contribute as the product of senile dementia, I am at a loss to understand why you would bother to read anything I have to say, whether it be on topic or off topic.

The post in question was far from political. I don’t share the erstwhile general’s views, but I found them to be quite novel, coming from one of his life experience. And you will note that the first eight words of the post indicated it stemmed from an experience I had on a signing.

Perhaps >>your<< life experience has led you to confuse puerility and civility?

Hugh since you come in so infrequently maybe you should

take another look at the Rules. Rule 3 in the Netiquette section reads as follows.

Please keep off-topic posts to a minimum and avoid topics that others may consider offensive, such as politics and religion. Under no circumstance should the forum be used to further a political, ideological or religious agenda; these topics have nothing to do with the inherent neutrality of notarial functions and our board is therefore not an appropriate venue for them.

I don't care what your borrowers political views are. They aren't welcome here.

Give me a break

"And you will note that the first eight words of the post indicated it stemmed from an experience I had on a signing"

So if I do a signing for Mel Gibson that makes it appropriate for me to start a discussion on this board about how evil Jews are? Nice try Hugh.

Re: Give me a break

No, Cali, I don't think signing Mel Gibson would be cover for spouting bilious bigotry, just as your membership on this board doesn't give you cover for virulent maliciousness. But it surely would be appropriate to recount what occurred during a signing -- as long as the signer is not identified.

You know Hugh, I heard a rumor about you.

I heard that there was a time when you actually contributed something worthwhile to notary boards. I heard that at some point in your career, you actually discussed topics related to our industry and you were considered fairly knowledgeable. What happened? Why is it that your infrequent visits are only about politics (directly or indirectly), religion, 30 year old jokes (bad ones I might add), or what skank you were boring to a coma at the weekly Moose Club single's mixer? Any chance that the Hugh I've heard about in stories could make an appearance?

At least Hugh has game to get him some Al.

Game recognizes game Al, and to Hugh and I, you and Cali are lookin pretty unfamiliar right now. Perhaps if you two just knew how to quit each other?

And yes, that last part was a joke....maybe.
