Is it contract renewal week or what?
Has anyone else been updating like crazy? I guess it's maintenance week for me. No calls, but plenty of requests to fill out new contracts, do new certification tests and database updates. I love this job, but this part is sure not my favorite. Hope you all have a good week.

Yr right but watch out for....
Yr right but watch out for new clauses.
New clause allows TC/Lender to check my credit report whenever they want.
Trip fees. Print fees.

Re: Yr right but watch out for....
Soooo... most, if not all, of the contracts I have signed in the past were NOT annually renewable ones. Mostly, they simply stated that either party had the right to cancel the contract upon 30 days written notice. Soooo...why would anyone sign a 'less favorable' contract when the old one still stands? A contract is a contract is a contract-- and it is not generally accepted that one party has the right to just change it at will.

Actually it fits with the general hauteur of the SS,
I have yet to see a contract from an SS I'd sign. They are all biased totally to the advantage of the SS. That being said I am sure that the people who are afraid that they will not get work unless they sign will continue to sign regardless of what the contract says and some are already outrageous. The SS gain strength from the notaries who are willing to subordinate the needs of their business to those of the SS in the mistaken notion and the fear that they will be shut out of the business. Unfortunately there are a lot of notaries out there who should not be in business, any business because they just aren't business minded people.

Few even look like contracts; Not SSs
I'm not talking about SS contracts - I haven't worked for em in years.
These are TC + lender "updates."
Most forms say they want updated or verified info, like tax id# or commission exp date.
The fine print is where you find the nonsense "by signing below, I agree to yaddah yaddah"
Very sneaky.

Exactly, Charles
I don't work "for" anyone company and I'm not for "hire". I have a business that operate on a job by job basis. A confirmation for each job serve as a contract I'm obligated to fullfill.

Well put. I received one from BancServ yesterday that said that they wanted:
- To ensure all notary information we have on file is accurate and up to date - To establish uniformity between all notary contracts - To modify our notary fee schedule
I like the last one best.

I have also received alot from lenders since last week. One of the lenders sent me a fee listing and all fees were way below my normal which was weird because I have worked with a few of them and never received those amounts. I included all my fees when faxing updated information back to them. I guess some of them will now stop calling me. What do you think?

Re: Exactly, Charles
Which should be of some interest, consider this. If you return this package wo/having corrected the fees to suit you then they will think the $50.00 fee is ok. On the other hand, when you change the fees, will they not (stop) call because the fees in their estimation are too high.? I haven't really done that much work for them in my area, but I'm definitely changing the fees.
