Just got this email from Accurate Sign Ups

Yeah, urgent message. I have told them time and time again to take me out of their database.

They are doing background checks now.

Urgent Notice

GRAMM-LEACH-BLILEY ACT (GLBA)

Dear Notary Signing Agent:

In Compliance with the GLBA Act, Accurate Sign Ups is now conducting background screening. Pursuant to the GLBA Act, Lenders and Title Companies are looking for notaries to pass the screening test. This compliance is to assure protection of the Borrower’s financial information within the loan documents. We will only allow “passed” NSA’s into our Notary Directory and Signing Company. It is of most importance to comply with this screening in a timely manner in order to be listed on our directory and called for signings. Please try to comply by November 30, 2006, either through our website, the NNA or other associations offering this screening.

Nobody likes the Government telling us what to do. However, speedy compliance by all notaries nationwide will send a message to Washington DC that we are very serious about maintaining standards of excellence and professionalism. Also, voluntary screening will show our industry as a whole is dedicated to the highest level of ethics and is thereby “self-regulated.” This may preclude future regulatory intervention by virtue of the fact that unethical, dishonest or illegal activity will not be tolerated in our industry. Government is counting on us to be diligent on this matter.

If you have passed the NNA Screening, just reply with “passed” and we will check your records on the NNA, otherwise please follow the instructions below.

SCREENING PROCEDURES:

We have created a background screen questionnaire in the attachment. Please complete and return with the credit card authorization for processing your background check in the amount of $16.00. All notaries that have passed will automatically get listed on our notary directory with the notation of your “passed GLBA Screening status” AS “Background passed” and called for notary signings. In addition to your screening we will be sending out notification letters to hundreds of lenders and title companies nationwide will be notified. Finally, due to your adherence to this act and our proactive role, your exposure will be increased. These lenders and title companies will in turn be contacting us or calling you from our National Notary Directory seeking screened notaries. Please order your screening today.

Sincerely, Lori Johnson Accurate Sign Ups LLC

I did get my CBC already from the NNA because I do believe it will be needed before 2007 and then there will be a rush and it will take forever. I am getting tons of calls for signings and they say they found me on the NNA site. I have only gotten 1 call in 4 years that ssaid they found me on the
NNA site.

The thing is, Accurate Sign Ups is a signing service, are signing services trying to get in on this for
the money?

Re: Just got this email from Accurate Sign Ups...Stay Away!

Margaret,

You know I adore you and respect you however, I have, in two years received two calls from the NNA/NSA site, both of which I declined due to extremely low fees. I know you can relate to that.

I now hold in my hands an overdue invoice from Accurate Sign Ups. My invoice is from a signing I did on 8/11/06. On 10/9/06, I faxed and called...go figure...I got no answer. On 10/26 I spoke with Laurie who said she would forward my request to Eric for payment.

Well, here I am on 11/11 with no payment for a signing done on 8/11/06.

Look out Chelsea Settlement Services...I'm knock'in on your door next. Please think twice before employing deadbeats...Florida laws are very specific when it comes to sub-contractors, from what I understand.

Thus far the only SS requiring the check are ones that I have not worked for. How about it Harry? Any updates?

5 SS's sent out emails this week

They want the NNA background check by 12/06- 01/07 or they will remove you. It almost forces you to dothe NNA bull crap if you still want to make money.

So.... Since we are responsible for keeping the BO info private, maybe we should demand background checks on each and every employee of the SS, just to make certain that we do not inadvertantly send the docs, (faxbacks), to someone who is not in compliance with the GBLA. We could give them a great volume rate of say $12.95 per employee, if they don't want to pay that, then we could suggest they join the good ol NNA and pay to be "certified" and get their required BGC. I'll bet the SS employees didn't have a BGC to be hired. Plus I don't see WHY the State BGC that is required by some states is not acceptable to these people that are pushing the check.
By the way...Thanks NNA...for absolutely NOTHING!

I got an email on Thursday that was sent to me by accident. I got an email from a title company
with loan docs. It was not my closing, but I did see the Notary Name and I knew her. I called her
and forwarded the email to her. That's scary. And when my email account was hacked and all
my mail was being forwared by a crook. They could have gotten a lot of sensitive information.

Re: NNA...Is this the lobbyist group that you want to rep yo

I was hoping that Harry would have the background check in place sooner. But no word as of yet.
I did not renew my membership until recently and just got re-certified. There are only 4 notaries in my area that are CBC'd and Certified and we all know each other and refer work to each other. Since I did this my phone has not stopped ringing. Big difference. I am only doing signings part-time, my inspection work is still coming in pretty good. My HUD foreclosure inspections have slowed downfor the holiday season but regular foreclosure inspections have really picked up. All those Arm's are killing people with the mortgage payment they can't make. I saw it coming when I closed a lot of loans. Now I am doing the foreclosure work.
