No ID, nope nada

Just called BO for 7:00 tonight and I ask if they will have copies of their IDs, Mrs. says, "no I don't have a Drivers License", oh, ok "do you have an ID?", no, "I don't. I have my birth certificate and my marriage certificate. They told me it wouldn't be a problem." I call the company and let them know there's no ID and am now waiting to hear back. I am so glad I was able to get ahold of the BOs because this is one is a bit far away. Oh Boy!

What I dont understand is, how can you start a loan process without even identify the possible borrowers.

Me either, it doesn't make sense to me. Apparently, because she is the non borrowing spouse, they don't think she needs it? She's still signing the mortgage and I can't ID her with nothing. The company called me back and tried to tell me I didn't need it because she was a non borrower, yes I do! Apparently I'm being difficult.

I like the old "You have an AKA Affidavit in the package" - yes I do - not good enough for my purposes though..

Me too, but I can't ID her period right now. WI law is not very strict or clear on the matter (we're hoping that will soon change), but no ID at all? I don't think so.

Have her take her marriage cert. and birth cert. to the DMV

and get an ID, pronto Smile
Most DMV's do it on the spot, and eventually she's going to need photo ID.

Amen to that Lisa. Here in WI, you get the ID right then and there. This is the second time this has happened to me, the first time the BO had misplaced his and couldn't find it. He went and got a new one and I went back the next day. They haven't called me back yet, they are probably trying to find a notary who will go.

I had a situation where the wife’s DL had expired. I explained to her that it had to be current or two witnesses. She got very upset about that and I told her she could go to the DMV and get it renewed and in hand in no time (very small town) and she agreed but was very very angry. I called the next day as arranged to reschedule and she had not gone yet and demanded I use the expired one as it had not been more than a few months ... I said sorry, no. She rescheduled again and when I called no surprise still no renewal. After she hung up with me she called her LO to complain about how difficult I am to work with. LO agreed I was being ridiculous and he would find a notary to work with her on her terms. Wonder if they did? I asked to be compensated as I had spent so much time with the BO trying to schedule and reschedule. Of course I have never seen a dime. I was very professional and patient even though she was incredibly rude and demanding....

Re: No ID, nope nada - ?

My understanding is that acceptable form of ID if current or issued in the past 5 years.

is this not acceptable? the woman had an ID recently expired but is it issued within the past 5 yrs?

Re: No ID, nope nada - ?

yes, but sry, I forgot to mention it was issued and would have fallen into that but she told me that it had been damaged and even the police would not accept it as credible ID even tho expired... sorry for forgetting that...

Zee, Re: No ID, nope nada - ?

Did you actually see it? Hold it?

Even though the I.D. wasn't acceptable by police standards,
the CA notary handbook does state that it could have
been used.

How was it damaged? Was it bent, folded, torn?
The notary handbook, does not state to exclude an I.D. due to "damage"
and/or non-acceptance by law enforcement.

You got it right Cony... but

Hard to tell just being an armchair quarterback... but DL's are good for 4 years, and sometimes can be renewed without getting a new one, right...

So an expired DL may well have been issued more than 5 years ago.

Re: No ID, nope nada - ?

In CA, the IDs(I'm assuming DL) are issued for at least 5 years + until the next birthday. So in most cases, an expired DL would have been issued more than 5 years ago.
But if the signer has a temporary visa like H1, L1 or B1, the DL would expire with the visa. In this case a expired DL could be used if issued under 5 years ago.

Mike, Re: No ID, nope nada - ?

A California driver's licensed expires on a person's birthdate.
No more, no less. Visa or no Visa.
In the event a license or I.D. is lost or misplaced,
during the five year period, a replacement card is issued with a new
issuance date. However, the expiration date does not change.

For example, a CA driver's license is issued on 12/20/01, to John Boy.
It will expire on 7/1/06 (John Boy's birthdate), not on 12/20/06.
Approximately, two years (three months) later, John Boy, having lost his
license, requests a replacement.
A replacement card is issued on 3/15/04.
This replacement I.D. will still expire on 7/1/06 (John Boy's birthdate).
But the issuance date will now show 3/15/04.
A signing is scheduled for 11/10/06. Is the card expired? Yes, it expired 7/1/06.
Has it been issued within the last five years? Yes, issued on 3/15/04.

". . .and demanded that I use the expired one as it had not been more than a few months. . ."

That expired I.D. could (and should) have been used, if issued within the last 5 years.

I didn't go

He said they were working on getting her an ID, but it was 1 1/2 hours 1 way and that docs wouldn't be in until 5:30, I had other appts and couldn't wait for them. To be perfectly honest, I didn't want to go after all that. I replaced it with something closer and paid more to boot. Smile
