My first love was a Marine. I was 5 years old. He and his wife were my parents best friends and still are to this day. He used to tell me I would grow up to be Miss America. I still smile when I think of it. He came to my wedding and danced with me. What a great Guy!

The privilege of US citizenship is one that you personally do understand and you do understand what it means to have liberty. England is a fine country, of course! Next to our grand USA Smile it's #1!

Englishwoman by birth, red blooded American by choice, loved her country enough to earn her right to call this her land and home.

Sometime, tell us about your citizenship journey, Sylvia. (Our own Notary Queen Mum)

Re: OT: Happy Birthday - Jahari - Sylvia...

Yes, I am a American by choice - and proud of it!
When someone notices my English accent (which I don't notice) and says "Oh, you're English" I reply by telling them I am American. Not English-American - I don't believe in those hyphenated designations. Either you are an American or you're not.

There was nothing remarkable about my citizenship journey.
One thing though, I had to go through an extensive background check before I could marry Bruce. Then I had to go through another to get my visa - and that was held up because they claimed Bruce wasn't an American citizen!!!! His father was in the military and was stationed in Jamaica when Bruce was born. They reported his birth to the embassy or consulate whatever it was and his parents were given a "Report of birth of a US citizen abroad".
But before the official paperwork went back to the states the consulate burned down and the records were lost.
Bruce called the Embassy in London to straighten the problem out, and they said "send us the report of birth you have and we will take care of the problem"
Yeah! He was just going to go and send them the only proof that he was a citizen and hope that they would return it? We went to the embassy with it. No way was he going to let that document out of his possession.

Today is the birthday of the US Marine Corps. My post was not to start a political debate or a discussion of the wars. It was to honor a fine branch of the military.

Tempers may start flying. I could not give two hoots about marine corps or the army.To me it only means death to innocent and suffering to innocent people. KEEP it off this board.

Since when does wishing a branch of the military on Veteran's Day equal "political" in anyone's book?

It's not even a stretch - Politics and religion aren't welcome on this board, and they are very easy to recognize. Wishing the Marines a happy birthday doesn't fall into either category.

Try harder to come up with a bona fide issue to complain about...now that you are walking the straight and narrow.

**Oh,I'm sorry my voice needs to be stifled!**

Nope. No one should stifled.

If I ever said so, it was in error.

What would be more helpful is if the one saying the things for shock value would stop acting like they cannot believe people don't agree with 'em.

Food for thought...how about if someone posts that child molesters of children between 12-18 should never be prosecuted...it's not a crime in some cultures to utilize pre-adolescent children (read as around 12 years old -/+ a year) as human objects for adult vices and therefore, this board must respect that culture.

It's absolutely no different to post that opinion than to post others which offend many posters. Yet, I bet someone would strongly object to it. I would.

My thought is that you post what you do for shock value and to be a troll on this board...not to do something honorable like change America for the better. That's just my opinion.

If you want to change America to be a better place, smart gal like you are...you know this board is not the place to do it with opinions that the most posters object strongly to. There are places for that...the most common being where you can run for public office.

There's the way I feel about the military and how people wish to characterize the way I feel about the military. Two very different things and I wont go into them here because whatever I post regarding my position on the military, someone will label me slam this post as political. In high school I wanted to be a combat pilot, be it in the USAF by way of the Air Force Academy in Co. Springs (which I have been) or the USMC at Annapolis flying either an F-16(USAF), F-18 Hornet(USMC), or an AV-8 Harrier jet (strictly because of the kickass VTOL capabilities.) But because I was overweight, I was turned down. There were very strict requirements in becoming a military pilot and there still are. It hurt but, I got over it.

My own family has many proud veterans of every war the US has engaged in from the Civil War on... most all of them were and are very very liberal in their political leanings a few of those ultra-liberals died in combat.
