OT - My father passed away today.
Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and energy. My father fought very hard to stay with us, but his heart could not take it anymore. He died peacefully this afternoon surrounded by myself, my daughter and my mom. My daughter, Allegra was his sun and moon, and as always, she didn't move from her grandpa's side. He knew we loved him, and he knew that it was ok to finally let go. He was a great man, and everyone that met him loved him. He will be missed.

I'm really sorry for your loss. Here's a poem that I love that always gets me through times like this:
Do not stand by my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am a diamond glint on the snow. I am the sun light on a ripened grain. I am the gentle Autumn rain. When you awake in the mornings hush, I am the swift up lifting rush. Of quiet birds in circling flight, I am the soft starshine at night. Do not stand by my grave and cry, I am not there..... I did not die.

Lisa, I am so sorry for your loss. The following helped me when I lost my father in law, and then both my parents. I hope it helps you somewhat.
What is dying? I am standing on the sea shore. A ship sails and spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean. She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her till at last she fades on the horizon, and someone at my side says, “She is gone.” Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all; she is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.
The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not in her; and just at the moment when someone at my side says “She is gone,” there are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad shout, “There she comes,” and that is Dying.

Sandi42, Re: OT - My father passed away today.
My heart goes out to you too, as you are also experiencing much sorrow in your life.
My mother died in 1982, my grandmother in 1986 and father in 1988. (My grandfather died in 1971). It's extremely hard to lose anyone that you love. "Back to Back" makes it that much harder. Being the only child, I had to take care of all matters by myself (Though I had friends for support, all decisions were mine and mine alone to make.).
But no matter what, Always trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. He will heal your pain.
Also, It will get much harder before it gets better. Eventually some of the hurt may ease, but not all. However, memories last a lifetime! Make a memory or keepsafe book. If you like to write, keep a diary or journal. Start a new hobby. Keep busy. . . Talk to the Lord each and every day!
May God Bless You and your family, during these trying times and always,
Pam

Oh Lisa...
I'm so sorry you lost your Dad today. Mine left when I was 21, and I haven't seen him since. This helps me get through the rough spots. Take care sweety...
Heavenly Father,
Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.
Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.
Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.
Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.
Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love.
May your Dad rest in peace.

Lisa, Re: OT - My father passed away today.
Words cannot convey the emptiness of your heart. My mom, grandparents and father all passed away, (years ago) before I turned 30. And I am an only child. . .
As the years go by, the pain my ease just a bit. However, memories last forever.
May I suggest, when you feel up to it, to start a memory book. You will treasure it in the years to come. And if you like to write, keep a journal. Journals can be very helpful.
As always trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to heal your suffering (as there will be both good times and bad).
May God Bless You and Your Family,
Pam
Lisa, Singer Luther Vandross made a heartfelt tribute to his father with the following song (it's one of my favorites): LUTHER VANDROSS LYRICS
Dance With My Father
Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then Spin me around 'til I fell asleep Then up the stairs he would carry me And I knew for sure I was loved If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him I'd play a song that would never, ever end How I'd love, love, love To dance with my father again When I and my mother would disagree To get my way, I would run from her to him He'd make me laugh just to comfort me Then finally make me do just what my mama said Later that night when I was asleep He left a dollar under my sheet Never dreamed that he would be gone from me If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him I'd play a song that would never, ever end 'Cause I'd love, love, love To dance with my father again Sometimes I'd listen outside her door And I'd hear how my mother cried for him I pray for her even more than me I pray for her even more than me I know I'm praying for much too much But could you send back the only man she loved I know you don't do it usually But dear Lord she's dying To dance with my father again Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream

I am so sorry 2 Corinthians 5
For we know that when this tent we live in now is taken down-when we die and leave these bodies-we will have wonderful new bodies in heaven, homes that will be ours forevermore, made for us by God himself, and not by human hands.
How weary we grow of our present bodies. That is why we look forward eagerly to the day when we shall have heavenly bodies which we shall put on like new clothes.
I feel your pain you will miss your father as I still miss my father I believe he isn't suffering anymore. I find peace and understanding in this book of the Bible when death find someone I love. Your dad will always be around you in spiirt your angel.
