O.T. In My Opinion,
Those in the military are often times not treated in Appreciation as they should be. Regardless of who or what started a war, these United States of America, would not be the country it is today, without the true dedication of those who have served and are serving.
My goodness, it takes a special person to be able to go to war, to endure all its sufferings, and then to come home to a nation, that at times, can't even say "Thank You".
Freedom is not easy. But it is easily taken for granted.
"To Serve God and Country" is the military code.
I am Very proud of the United States military force and to them, I say "Thank You" and May God Bless!
Pam

Bless you Pamela - as the mother of a serviceman who risked his life, those words mean a great deal to me, as they do to him and any others who have served.
For those who try to accuse you of posting about "politics"? Nonsense. Simply nonsense.
Sylvia made a wonderful post about the USMC and was dragged through the mud by an individual that contributes nothing to this forum, and who doesn't appreciate the sacrifice of a soldier who allowed him/her to live here. If you are also (dragged thru the mud) I hope you stick to your guns. This is important, very important.
Thanks for your OT post.

Well today is the .....
Marine Corps birthday. 40 years ago today I returned from Vietnam to flag burning, accusations of baby killer and being spit at. Today, I think our soldiers are looked up to for their bravery and sacrfice. It was hard and will always be hard to be in combat, my hats off to those that today choose to serve.

Larry, I'm so sorry for that
I didn't agree with that nonsense when it was happening. You should have been welcomed back and thanked for your service. This is a little late, but is heartfelt. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!

Re: Larry, I'm so sorry for that
I agree with you, Christi! I was passionately against the war in Vietnam but never the soldiers who mostly had no choice about being there. I hope that from Vietnam and the terrible way those vets were treated upon their return, we've learned to distinguish between those who are serving their nation and following orders and those who are creating policy and conducting the war. Whatever we might think about the current situation, our servicemen and women are doing their job with honor (with the very rare exceptions we've all heard about) and nearly always great sacrifice, and we should be grateful to them! (I have a nephew who served proudly in Afghanistan.)
And Larry, another belated and hearty thank you to you!!

Larry...
I was just a kid when all of you were returning from Nam. I remember seeing/ hearing some of the things you are saying. I also remember my Granny with tears in her eyes telling me how wrong the "hecklers" were. She took time to explain to me what was going on, and told me to never forget that these servicemen had gone to war for our country and that I should always treat them with respect because they deserved it. My hat's off to you and all the other vets out there. Thanks to all of you for the sacrifices you made! And to your families also, who made sacrifices and made it through all the worry and wait. And thanks to all of you out there that have spouses, children etc, serving know. Bless you for your sacrifices and know we say prayers every night for thier safe return home. Have a good weekend everyone!

It is because of the way the Viet Nam vets were treated
that I founded Operation Cookie during Operation Desert Shield. We need our military to know how much we appreciate and support them. Kate, tell your husband a big Thank You for his service and let him know his service was appreciated.

Yes, that is how I got the "cookie lady" nickname. I was on Good Morning America, and the day the segment aired I was in the supermarket and a child pointed to me and said "There's the cookie-lady" The radio station here also started calling me the cookie lady. The name "stuck". I even received letters that were just addressed to "the cookie lady" with no address!

Same thing happened when my husband stepped off the plane at L.A.X. There is a sadness in his eyes that never goes away.

Re: 37 years ago for me Larry
I was in Japan for 3 years of my young life 37 years ago. My mom worked as a Red Cross volunteer at the hospital. She brought my 2 brothers and I to the hospital to visit the wounded soldiers 2 times a week. At first we were scared of them all bandaged up, limbs missing etc. Children adjust and it didn't take long, we were being kids running all over the place asking questions, playing checkers or cards with the patients.
I remember playing on the playground and watching the helicopters land with the wounded as ambulances took them to the hospital. You never forget those things.
I learned more about life and how to treat people from that than almost any other experience I had. I was never afraid of wheelchairs or people who were different than me anymore.
I have always had a special place in my heart for the Vietnam Vets. My Dad did 2 tours before we went to Japan. He came home a changed man. Thin and his hair was a different color. He went on to stay in the Navy until 1988 and retired with 35 years active duty.
Thank You for all You did.

From my heart, welcome home~
What a challenge the American people have always faced....media concentrates on the minority as opposed to the majority, it sells better for some reason. Thank you for your sacrifice, thank you for your family's sacrifice. Those of us that are glued to the TV during these crisis cannot possibly know how difficult it is to become a hero. The Viet Nam warrior opened the door for other warriors to learn how to communicate with those that love and support them. For that unseen gift, I personally thank you.

Re: O.T. Pamela it does indeed take a special person to be
so selfless they give their life for their country and would have it no other way. There is not ever a time when I feast my eyes on a man or women in uniform that the committment they have made does not move me. Thank you all.......
