Problems with HP 1320
I just got a new HP 1320 and I thought I followed all the directions. I have other HP printers and the toner works great. This one has directions like pictures and the first direction shows hands holding the toner and arrows and 5-6. I do not know what that means. The paper comes out but no print. I sure it is a toner problem but I am stumped. I am pretty good with technical stuff. I just upgraded my power inverter and set it up yesterday myself, so I really need some help

Sounds like a job for Andy or Paul
It must be our gender, men just seem to better understand spacial-visual directions, I myself prefer the written directions, I seem to be able to understand them easier than diagrams. Are you still doing signings Margaret? How is the inspection business?

Hi Misty,
Yeah I am back doing signings again. My foreclosure inspections for HUD have been cut back to 10%. Not doing HUD REAC anymore. But still doing commerical and residential.

** This one has directions like pictures and the first direction shows hands holding the toner and arrows and 5-6. I do not know what that means. **
It means hold the toner cartridge and shake it horizontally 5 or 6 times - that distributes the toner in the cartridge, and it's something you're supposed to do with every new cartridge.
** The paper comes out but no print. **
HP cartridges have a tape that keeps the toner inside the cartridge during shipping; make sure you've removed it. There should be a pull tag on one end, whcih may or may not say "PULL" on it (it's been a while since I've changed an HP cartridge); you need to give it a good yank, it doesn't just peel off easily.

I havae done everything I know, I pulled the tab off on the left hand side, it had a ring to pull, I have shaken it real well and I give up. I will call HP tomorrow and trouble shoot, this is frustrating. The roller is covered with a green plastic. Do I need to take it off? I have 6 printers and none are like this.

I just pulled out my cartridge and no green plastic there so
I would say yes. In fact, I remember taking off a plastic strip from mine when I opened it for the first time, but cant remember what color it was.

Kathy,
I can't get the green plastic off. This is the roller underneath the piece that you can lift off.

I just looked again and if you mean the roller that is part
of the cartridge/drum, that green plastic stays there. Are you turning on the on/off switch on the side of the printer? I know that sounds ridiculous but.......when I first got mine, I thought the on/off switch was the green buttom on the top of the printer. I hate to read those directions. Good luck with this. I know how frustrating printer problems can be.

Re: I just looked again and if you mean the roller that is p
Kathy, you are right, that is the drum and you do not remove that. I was up until 2am and went to bed frustrated. I called HP this morning and they determined I had a BAD printer. I just got back from OfficeMax and they replaced it with a new printer, no questions asked. The new printer works great. I saw they had it on sale for $399, I paid $199 on Thanksgiving day online. I purchased the extra 128 memory card, now all I have to do is install it in the new printer.
