Yeah I found out on Friday when I went to the out to send out a package. The truck had picked up 3 hours earlier than usual, the person at the outlet said that she had to call UPS for a special pick up. Go figure! The least they could do is give some kind of notice on their website, etc. I heard that FedEx was working a normal schedule.

Catches me by surprise EVERY year!

Occasionally, at the end of the month, I have my packages delivered to the UPS facility so I can pick it up early. Friday, as I'm approaching, dejavu starts kicking in. Only a few cars in the Parking lot with a big CLOSED sign on the door!!! Luckily, I know they keep the back door open and I knew where the managers office was. He got my package for me. I asked about the schedule and he said only express shipments were going out. I called at 4:15 from a 6:30 drop box and they said they WERE picking up the drop boxes.

FedEx, on the other hand, had a note on their 6pm drop box that they were picking up @ 5pm. At 4:15 the box had already been picked up. Had to drive to a HUB to get it sent and it was delivered Saturday Morning.

Few years ago, over the Christmas Holiday, we had 24" of snow. My packages sat in a buried FedEx box for 6 days! I hated the answer the phone that week.

Re: FYI Everyone..

I just called FedEx - their Kinkos facilities are closed on Sunday, 12/24 - in my area I have one facility taking drops by 3:00 on Saturday, 12/23 (but I have to drive almost 50 miles to get to it) - they are closed on Monday. On Tuesday, 12/26 there are NO deliveries but there are pickups as usual.

Re: UPDATE to FYI

PAW very nicely told me he talked to FedEx and they told HIM they WERE delivering on Tuesday...yeesh...

Guess I'll check again closer to the holiday - maybe they'll have their schedules worked out by then. As for UPS I'll be calling around about that tomorrow.

Sorry for misleading - it was not my intention.

Re: UPS: Not all UPS Stores are equal!

The usual place where I drop packages (UPS, FedEx, DHL) was closed on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. FedEx claimed that packages would be picked up at one specific drop-box location on Friday, so I dropped the FedEx packages there.

On Saturday a call to the UPS 800 number brought the good news that the schedule was normal and that staffed locations were open. A visit to the UPS Store in my home town brought me face to face with a "Closed" sign. Another call to the 800 number brought the same lie. I asked where the next-nearest staffed location was and was told Rhode Island, about 25 miles (one way) away; supposedly that store would have the normal pickup, about 5:30 or so. A call to that store (about 4:15) brought the truth: The last pickup for Friday had already occurred and they were about to close. The gentleman was very nice. He said that they would open at 10:00 AM on Saturday, and the pickup would be at noon. On Saturday I drove the 50+ miles round trip, dropped off the packages, and had a very pleasant chat with the franchisee.

It seems that the stores that are ***direct*** UPS franchises have to obey the UPS rules. The other stores (such as the one in my home town) make up their own rules.

Bottom line: Don't believe the 800-number information or the Web Site. Call the individual store to be sure when they'll be open and when the last pickup will be.

Very true!! If unfamiliar with location, also confirm

directions. The first time I went to the local FedEx hub, the directions on the website were very wrong. When I finally got a hold of someone at the location, they gave me the correct directions & stated that they knew the directions on the FedEx site were incorrect & had been so for over a year!! No one knew how to correct the site.

The local UPS store in my town states pickup at noon on the website, but the UPS guy gets there about 15-20 minutes early for pickup on Saturday.

Never believe everything you see on the internet!
