I drove to Pasadena, Ca on Friday traffic, 3 hours of driving. Finally got to borrowers house, old man never asked wife if it was Ok to refi, of course she refuse to sign. Im battleting with ss for full fee. 7 hours of work, for only 1/2, I don't think so.

You drove from Chula Vista to Pasadena? Isn't that like 100 miles? How much did you charge?

Barbara - I've gotten calls from services for drives close to 90 miles away - and one call for a signing clear across the state - why?...according to the girl who called "your zip codes are close" (???) Many figure if the zip code numbers are close then the cities must be too..<G>

Re: cancellation...why on earth would a....
If you s-t-r-e-t-c-h it regarding zipcode similiarities, Chula Vista is 91913 and Pasadena is 91188... both start with 91.
However we're talking 2 different major cities here, San Diego area vs Los Angeles area.
According to the NotRot notary search there are 1382 notaries in the 91188 Pasadena zip of which 225 speak Spanish (just in case they were looking for a Spanish speaking notary). So, it just doesn't make sense to call someone in a town 150 miles and 2 hours away oneway (according to yahoomaps).
Oh well, each to their own. JMO

How much?
The equivalent of my hourly rate for 7 hrs would be $525.

Many (but not all) signing companies require a contract on file, before issuing an assignment. It is in these contracts, where the "no sign", "no show", "travel only", "cancellation" clauses are written.
Others companies will telephone "out of the blue". When they do, always inquire about these "no sign" etc. . . fees before accepting a job. And if possible, have them give it to you in writing.
Signing services overall, try to keep as much money in their pockets as they can (being the "middle man" and all). They want the signing agent to travel an extended number of miles for the same set fee (for which I will not do. I have a maximum number of miles, that I will travel, and will not go over it.).
For example, I service parts of Los Angeles and Orange counties. I've been offered signings in Riverside and San Bernardino counties for which I will not and do not accept. Why? For the same fees, I can get assignments in areas that I do cover.
So, it is not surprising that they do not want to pay you the full fee.
However, speak with the manager or the agency's owner (may be hard to do, depending upon the type of company you're dealing with).
Nevertheless, Hope that everything works out well!
Pam
