help....opinions please...SOX

Got a call for last minute signing from SOX. He says "HI, calling from Sox signing..blahblah...." I say " oh i've heard lots about you". Silence... He asked could I do signing.... I say "not for you, have a good night"......2 minutes later I get a call from a gal that says " hi this is Rosalyn from Alliance title could you do a closing" ok, she met my fee no question. I look on the phone and see that its the same # that SOX called from.... I tried calling back but they have a phone system with that # that can't accept calls. So now I got docs sent to me and do not want to do signing.....what would you do

did they really pose as title to get job done??.....

The e-mail and confirmation looks legit and I see nothing that says SOX, but are they just that calculating? I mean the same exact phone #! My gut is telling me that its SOX trying to pull a fast one. But, if its title and I don't go.....I dunno

Re: did they really pose as title to get job done??.....

Maybe you can look on the docs to get the TC # and if its different then you know its SOX. The confirmation we got from them was just a typed email. If the # is different I would call the title company just to be sure and explain why you are calling. Be truthful. They need to know what is going on.

Thanks Debbie, you've been a real help. I have come to my own conclusion that they are trying to dupe me and I'm not falling for it. They will have to deal with title when the notary doesn't show.

Re: as being from SOX...

I wouldn't stand for it! Especially if it is really SOX. I wonder if SOX created a few different business names just so they can find notaries to do their work...... hhhmmm....

Re: as being from SOX...

I would still send a reply email to tell them that you are going to pass on it. You dont want the borrowers waiting if no one is going to show up. Its a good thing to do on your part. It was my pleasure to be of some help.

Rhonda I would also call the BR's and let them know you

won't be doing the signing. Tell them the reason if you have to but at least let them know what is up. It's their loan and ultimately they are the ones losing out because of SOX.

Re: Ok Bev, don't wanna...but I should you're right.

Come Monday morning I would be calling the LO and cluing him in on this whole mess. Then I would call Title. Look thru the docs they sent you and get some Phone#'s. Call these people and complain. Let them know what losers they are working with.

I will. I can't believe how weird...

Part of me thinks.... This can't be real. Would they really? And... what if it is really Title and...??? But, then ...why the same #. I can't let myself try to believe.

Alliance is a cheapskate TC

So I wouldn't be surprised if the went along w/ sox type nonsense.

Alliance Title has always treated me fair as well. I can't believe that the people I've worked with at Alliance Title would knowingly be a part of a "scam" by SOX.

Brenda + Sher

I've gotten good fees out of different Alliance ofcs as well but only after arguing + standing tuf. Getting them 2 go above $100 takes work.

You might remembr the scam I posted a mo or 2 ago.

Gal said she was calling from a TC. Turns out she is an independent scheduler working from home who gets a cut. A new type of SS. She wanted 2 pay me $75 so she could keep the rest of the $150 the TC was paying.

Alliance was the TC.

Do the addresses match? Are they close?

As further confirmation, it would be good to see if the addresses match or are close. The same zip code would do it for me. It would be an amazing coincidence that you would get two phones, that close from the same zip code. Then again, I guess he practically admitted to it.

Rhonda can you post the phone number that they used, so that if we get calls, we can be alerted that they might not be who they say they are, and to proceed with caution.

I would keep the docs and not go to the closing and when SOX calls, tell them that since they took over 60 days to pay, that you thought you could do the signing in 60 days - It makes a point and then they have to answer to the title company. I will NEVER work for SOX again and the more notaries that stop working for them, the better.
