interesting addendum...
to an order confirmation I received from a SS today. It's exact wording: "Upon acceptance of this order, Notary, it's employees, agents and subcontractors agree to comply with applicable federal and state consumer privacy laws and regulations governing the privacy of consumer information with respect to Notary's collection, use, disclosure and protection of such information. " How concise and to the point can you get? Seems an easy, effective solution to potential liability claims on SS's without a required CBC. BTW this is one of the better known SS's in the country so I would trust that they know what they're doing. I take very few SS signings but this one pays well, on time and no hand holding. And now they gave me another reason to respect them.

Hi, I'm new here and new to the notary business. I am so confused with the initials you used. Could you please tell me what they are? SS and CBC. Also have you used the company long?Thank you, Lisa

Some of the abbreviations used here can be confusing to a new-comer, so here are the more common ones:
SS - signing service TC - title company LO - loan officer BO - borrower CBC - criminal background check BGC - background check
Hope this helps...

I received something quite similar today...
but it was a five-page privacy policy/compliance agreement IN LIEU OF a CBC. I will gladly comply, and gladly sign and return their compliance agreement. Smart business. VERY smart. And they're obviously not falling for the NNA certification ploy I like them more already. By the way... it's CHASE. Yep... nice, big lender. One of those things that makes you go "Hmmmm.....?"

and not just playing Simon says. Kudos to the smart ones!!

I'd sign that type of form too
No problem signing that type of form, but I dislike a CBC intensely as you just never know who is going to be nosing around in your personal information. The title companies and signing agencies and lenders don't always have the most trustworthy people working for them either! I was thoroughly endoctrinated with the legal ethics code by the wonderful lawyers I worked for. "What I see, I don't see. What I hear, I don't hear. "What I know, I don't know." All information is totally confidential. I keep a Notary Journal, but it only lists borrowers' names from their ID, the agency, the title company, the lender, the date and time of the closing, the titles of the documents notarized, and the return package tracking number. Period. I keep physical copies of the order confirmation, driving directions, emails, the mailing label, and any pertinent notes I may have made. Absolutely no borrower personal information is kept. And NO ONE sees my Notary Journal, not even my darling hubby. LOL

I got the same email. Did you happen to notice that the sender did not BCC all of the recipients? Is OUR privacy not sacred?
I know you got the email, Lisa, I saw your email addy in the CC box.
People PLEASE. Practice what you preach!

Yes, I saw that Becca...
but I am accutely aware that the $7.00 per hour receptionist whose job it is to send those blast emails is absolutely CLUELESS as to what BCC means. C'mon... acronyms can really confuse a girl! lol So I forgive them. After all, it was just my email address, right? (nervously snickering as I watch for the next awful trojan that comes from harvesting clueless girls address book)
