my first was horrible
I am very new and just received my first assignment. First it was cancelled, then reinstated for the next day. I got home with only 2 hrs. to open, print and reveiw docs. Holy sh** they gave mye the wrong user name and password (20 min. goes by getting that straightened out). I sent 5 messages to my printer before I realized that I had hooked up to the wrong port (I guess I was nervous). Needless to say the first attachment printed 16 pgs 2X's, then 5X's (yipes, what is all this paper???). Then tons of attachments (8) so that I ended up with about 200 pgs.
Borrower does not want to meet at her house, so we agree on a Starbucks @7:00PM. Non-borrowing spouse must be present and sign SOME of the docs. I telephone friend/notary who is lots more experienced if she will go with me. All goes well until they tell us at 8:00PM that they are closing ! What? Every Starbucks in the world stays open till 10:00PM, doesn't it? We drive across the street to a BOWLING ALLEY!! (things are definitely going down hill!) After signing half of the docs she telphones the broker who tells her "you don't have to sign the rest if you don't want " It is now 9:30PM The borrower halts the deal. I return all docs , the ones signed and the unsigned to the SS.
Next day: SS is amzingly nice and ask me to contact borrower and reprint, and get the remained signed. I do so and it finally ends. Next problem: It is Vet Day and there is no mail service. and my FAX won't work!!!
I hope that I have made all of you old-timers laugh. But to tell the truth, I ws in tears for days.
PLEASE tell me it's gonna get better - Patti

Patti look at it this way you got a bad one out of the way.
If your going to have a bad experience then you might as well have it first. I would say about 2% of my signings are difficult and the rest are simple and problem free. Those are pretty good averages. Hang in there it will get better.

Actually the signing you described is typical, and probably.
easier than most of those that you will have.
Just kidding, you get those once in a while, but I find that more than 9 out of 10 are smooth as silk. It will go much easier if you: Know your state's notary laws cold. Be very familiar with typical loan documents that you will handle, especially the HUD, Note, TIL and RTC. Be familiar with your hardware and software. Reek from confidence when you are presenting dox If bwrs believe that you REALLY know what you are doing, then most signings will be a breeze. Good Luck

I was a nervous wreck the first one I had also. Believe me it does get better and you will feel more relaxed once you have a few under your belt. I would say also 9/10 are easy and smooth. Just once in a while you will run into problems usually with a borrower that was uninformed about something in their loan. Hang in there and keep going. I love this job. You meet many very nice people.

It IS ...
going to get better. My first one many years ago:
...was a lady who did not want to sign. ...was a reader. ...had a domestic violence situation. ...the boyfriend showed up during the signing. ...the loan officer didn't know squat. ...I didn't know squat. ...the escrow officer was out sick and her assistant didn't squat. ...it all turned out alright.
And I'm still here...years later....it DOES get better. And YOU will get better. It all takes time ...and NO. i am NOT laughing at you. I am sympathetic and I understand. God bless. Even if you don't believe in God. Or Whatever.

Patti,
My first signing was at the beginning of the year (in the winter and it was cold).
Borrowers' address was verified (by me) with both signing service and borrower. Because I played "courier", I did not have to download anything. Package was complete and I was ready to go.
Found the street which was good. However, I could not find the house! It was "after hours" and the signing service wasn't available. Repeatedly telephoned the borrower whose telephone was "busy".
Had to get out of my car and go from house to house knocking on doors. This was in the evening, many of the people could not (or would not) speak English, only Spanish (though both borrowers were English speakers).
Went on both "street" and "place". Front, middle and rear houses. Of course some of the homes had dogs. Big dogs!
About 30 minutes later, borrower answers phone. Apologized, that he had given the wrong address. That he had just moved there and had transposed the last two numbers.
He also told me that the house sat in the alley, away from the main street, so the address was not visible, until someone actually entered the gateway. (Would have been nice if he had mentioned this non-visible, darken-alley, dwelling home to someone!) He later met me outside, waving a flashlight.
So "yes" things will get better. And "yes", you will have some very interesting stories to tell!

Re: Pam-I laughed I got directions for a home last week
left on so and so, right on so and so and when you come to the tree turn left. The woman said I know that sounds funny when you come to the tree(and more so since this is a forest in which we live). Her directions were right on target because you did arrive at a tree and you either make a left or a right. In the mountains many homes have access roads to reach the house that is actually different from the home address but if one is familair with the community they can be pretty easy to locate....but not always....and if you can't figure out the access road, you may be climbing 100 or so stairs...

Re: Yes, better and better...
This career literally fell into my lap. A lender or title co called my friend, a notary, to conduct a signing. She said she was not in that business, but knew a gal who might be interested (moi). I said sure, I can do that...
The borrower was a jewel of a gal, and I confessed this was my first, to which she replied that it was her first too, and that we would just muddle through together. She made a pot of tea, we proceeded page by page, and after a time, concluded a perfectly enjoyable transaction. I'm so fortunate to have begun my learning curve on such a positive experience.
Here's to your journey; may you have many, many fine signings. This bad thing will soon be just a memory.
