Adobe 6 vs. Adobe 7

I've read the previous posts about Adobe 7 regarding deleting upgraded version and downloading from scratch or Adobe 6. I've tried both and this is what I found.

Monday I had a terrible time printing out docs. Took FOREVER to download and then wouldn't print or would only print one page then a wait then finally another page. Took FOREVER to print a 70 page file. I finally had to print 10 pages at a time. This was only one file out of five. (Was a long night)

Anyway, I had some time this evening so I tried to delete Adobe 7 and re-download from scratch. Then I tried to re-print the same file. The same thing happened. It did clear up the problem of not printing at all, but still PAINFULLY SLOOOOOW.

So then I deleted Adobe 7 . . . yet again and downloaded Adobe 6 instead. It printed beautifully. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. They can keep 7 I'm sticking w/6.

I totally agree. dumped 7 and reinstalled 6. I've read others with the same deal. who would think that an upgrade would be so disruptive, it ruined a day of printing for me. anyone savy enough to explain whats going on with adobe 7.

Need to download Adobe 7 to print out instructions.....

for my new phone. Would not print on 6
Downloaded 7 without deleting 6 and held my breath.
Works like a charm.(Not related to the lady in AL)
I have Windows XP Professional.
I recall that PAW said that it is not a problem if you
have this operating system. As usual , he was correct.

I have Windows XP Professional as well and it was most definitely a problem. I'm going to stick w/6. I tried it both ways tonight and 6 is definitely better.

Re: Need to download Adobe 7 to print out instructions.....

I gradually upgraded from 5.5 all the way to 7.xx via Adobe download manager and never had a glitch. My guess to anyone encountering a problem after an upgrade is due to a software incompatibility somewhere within the current OS (Operating System). Win2K may not be up to date to fully support new codes/commands written in Adobe7. The same would apply to WinXP Home/Pro running without SP2 and/or the latest updates.

Re: Need to download Adobe 7 to print out instructions.....

All my systems are Windows 2000 based, except for one XP machine. ALL of them are currently running Adobe Reader 7.0.8 with no problems. The main desktop is running Adobe Acrobat Standard 6 along with Reader 7.0.8 (on Windows 2000 SP4) with no problems what-so-ever.

I agree with Andy, that somewhere along the line, there is probably an incompatibility of software that causes problems with the reader. In the early versions of Reader 7, there were major problems in the reader itself. That appears to have been 'cleaned' up with the latest version.

Adobe has recently released version 8 of the Acrobat family, so I am assuming that it won't be too much longer before there is a version 8 of the Reader hitting the streets.

I saw the Adobe 8, its ''Coming Soon". Hopefully that version will be better.

Adobe 7 - I only had a problem

when I went from v6 to v7 WITHOUT wiping out v6 first. After I wiped out v6 & installed v7, I haven't had any issues (using Win2000). I missed a few features 7 has that 6 didn't.

Hi Laurie,

I have this problem on a fairly regular basis. Where the downloading takes 15-20 minutes, then the actual printing can take up to 2 hours. It is insane! I have tried a number of different solutions, none of which have worked. I just checked my office PC and I have Adobe 7...not sure what I have at home on my laptop. I am going to try your suggestion and I desperately hope it will work. Otherwise, I can never tell when this is going to come up and it really throws off my schedule for the day/night. Thanks for the post!

So it seems if you have WinXp ... use Adobe 6? And Win 2000 or xpProf use Adobe 7? Not sure how Win registry would handle this ... but can you have both versions installed and if one isn't performing well, then switch to the other version? Any techies out there that know this answer? I just checked and have Adobe 7 .. think I will uninstall, clean my registry and reinstall version 6.
