Background checks rehashed

I know it has been the focus of many threads, but having thinking it over, I think Harry's idea is a great idea, we cannot have NNA trying to become a monloply in my opinon it definely is violating anti trust laws, we need another entity other than the NNA, I will not being renewing my membership with them, it is just another way into getting in to our pockets.

I'm with you on this Harry and I have looked into all the pros and cons of this and NNA I will not be renewing this GBL and it is just another way to pocket us notaries that can't afford the nickel and diming from them.
disclaimer I am not an attorney and this is just my opion

Everyone has to make up their own mind, but until I hear what is required by those who hire me, I am doing nothing.

I'd think that the FBI deal that Stamper posted about says it all. I am not sure how to make that work yet, but I am thinking on it.

I think we should have LO have BGC's!

Yes and all the signing services, they have access to all the borrowers information.

If I worked for the FAA or FBI, etc. I would not question a full blown BGC but as a SA I think not. Give me a break. It cracks me up to get an email from that company that's selling this official fricken badge for "signing agents." If I bought that, I'd feel like Barney Fife. My state already did one on me for my real estate license and all is good (which I already knew that). But, even if I didn't have my RE license, I still don't think the BGC is necessary for an nsa. There is too much fraud in the world today, especially in the mortgage and real estate industries. Extensive background checks should have been required years ago for ALL notaries (signing agents or not) in this country (as well as abroad). California (the state I'm commissioned in) has mandated background checks for each notary applicant.

<I think we should have LO have BGC's!> I can't speak for

other states but here in Nevada, LO's DO have a BGC in order to renew their license (along with yearly recertification).

Different levels

Ask your SOS what kind of BGC they do. I did the other day. WI checks the circuit court website. That is it. Whatever you did in WI is all they check.

So yes, the states need to look at this and they overall laws regarding comissioning notaries. It is not just a matter of in State security but national. What we notarize could have global ramifications.
