Email account was hacked
I just had a horrible thing happen. I had not gotten any email since noon yesterday. I was worried, so I called comcast this morning. I asked if the email was down and they said no. They asked me if I had forwarded my email to another email, I said NO. I get my email on my blackberry also and would never do that. He checked my account and my email was being forwarded to a [e-mail address] account. So all the email that I got after noon yesterday if gone and not on the server either, they had selected for the messages to not be saved on the server. I select the option for my messsages to stay on the server for 5 days. Just change my password, but I get all my work through email.

Identical thing happened to me a couple of months ago. Luckily for me I was waiting on an e-mail a friend sent and stumbled on it. Tech said they can't figure out how "they" did it as it would have required a phone call. He told me to change password every 3 weeks, and I'd doing that faithfully. Far as I'm concerned the server should be able to track the a$$ hole down but he tells me that's not possible....ugh! Maybe the server should hire a hacker!

And title companies are worried about security. if the think their e docs are secure they are dreaming. we have a mainframe security expert in the family. if you knew the sites that have been hacked you would be shocked. Hacking emails is child's play.

My better clients do not take chances with emailed docs, they are posted at a site, and downloaded from there by NSA's. Margaret's post illustrates there are bigger security threats than us out there.

Not to mention ss and internal threats. My personal opinion is there is no such thing as security. I have two diffrent security systems on my system. Each and every day , all day long those systems are working at a "fever pitch." Remember everyone that has a link to their information is leaving the door open for any nut out there to try and hack also. They have your email and whatever they send you will go to your inbox. Be very carefull what you open , not sure "spam it"

Breaking into "secure" sites of any type. Is only a time game. Security people go on the assumption it will be hacked. They estimate time it will take and have new version out sooner. Many of these firms hire ex-cons to test their new systems. "Ain,t never seen a horse that couldn't be rode. Ain't never met a cowboy that couldn' be throw'd. Same thing for secure sites.

Margaret, Re: Email account was hacked
If you also use this account for online banking etc. . .I would suggest that you IMMEDIATELY contact these other companies and change your account number(s), password(s) and e-mail address(es).
And, if possible, terminate this particular e-mail address (I have several for both personal and business use).

Re: Margaret, Re: Email account was hacked
Margaret you might want to do a virus scan. Personally I do a virus scan every day. Remember last year when someone "zapped" us ? No of us need that trouble.
Sounds like you have everything well in hand. Good thinking !

MARGARET!
Get a separate e-mail address for e-Bay!
When I first began selling and buying on e-Bay (a few years ago) someone went in and changed all my auctions!
They also prevented me from accessing my Verizon e-mail account by changing my e-mail password (During that time, I only had one e-mail address).
I promptly contacted e-Bay's Safe Harbour and Verizon.
After this experience, I stopped using Verizon and switched to Yahoo. So far, I haven't had any more problems with my e-mail addresses.
