FL + AZ notaries: question re IDs that do not expire
I hope Florida and Arizona notaries can help me.
I hear your states offer ID cards with no expiration dates (not driver licenses) to the elderly.
Can you tell me the age at which a person is eligible for this type of card?
I did Google and Yahoo searched and was not able to find this information.
If you don't know the age of eligibility, would you post the url of the issuing agency so I can search that website?
I am working with a state senator and congresswoman to get legislation changed in WA. Knowing the age of eligibility would be helpful.
Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, ANY resident in AZ can obtain a state-issued ID. I have seen people of all ages with state ID; they are available to anyone without a driver's license, not just seniors. And you're correct, they no longer have an expiration date. They are issued by the MVD, but my search didn't find any eligibilty age; although a friend who was born here thinks the minimum age is 16.

This is the official government site; hope this helps!

Not sure there is a "permanent" one for Florida. But you might try emailing or call toll free for information:

Not in FL
I looked, but did not see anything that would say FL gives out non-expiring ID. All the ID cards I have viewed have had expiration dates, and the DMV website didn't offer anythng other than renewing the ID card when expired, or nearing expiration.

I hope this works for you...go to:
http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/search/index.jsp?search=1&si=1&ns=10&st=relevance&c=webfiles&c=pdfs&c=docfiles&qt=State+issued+identification+card&image1.x=27&image1.y=6
Click on the "2001 Handobook Apr2" This will open up the handbook in .pdf format. On page 8 & 9 you will find the required identification documents needed to obtain a drivers license or id card. The requirements for the id card are listed on page 20. Any citizen over 12 years of age is entitled to a State Issued ID Card.

Thank you
Your posts are all very helpful.
I have contacted the agencies mentioned so I have exact information to give to my WA senator and congresswoman.
You FL and AZ notaries are so lucky. I turn down around 3 notarization appointments a week due to expired ID. It is a big problem nationwide and is only going to get bigger as our nation ages.
Now if only AZ would allow their notaries to charge a decent travel fee!
