Has anyone on this board been asked

by any of companies listed on NNA's newletter to comply with the background checks and certification? When I mentioned the article to someone in the closing dept at LandAmerica, she told me that she hasn't heard anything yet, but if the companies are requiring it, we should have it done or we may as well go out of business. She told me that the major underwriters in the US are with the companies listed and if they are requring it, then we wouldn't be able to work for any title companies or signing services that the underwriters use.

Hope the spelling/grammar police aren't reading right now...I'm tired.

Also.......

Just the fact that she hadn't heard it brings up a red flag to me. I find it strange that an employee of one of the six listed wouldn't know about their new policy. I do business with four of the ones listed and haven't been contacted by any of them yet. December 1 is coming soon. Wouldn't we have been notified by now???

Re: Has anyone on this board been asked NO!

As stated in various earlier threads...
The GBL act went into effect in 1999. This time period from then to now also saw the beginning, middle & end of the 'boom' years of this business and the creation of an over-saturation of notaries in certain areas.
7 years later, a certain organization responsible for the creation of said over-saturation saw an opportunity to create a new situation so they could make more money.
And certain other companies saw an opportunity to save money by passing on a previous expense (IF a certain Lender whose business they wanted required a BGC) they had willingly paid for in the past to the Independent Contractors that work with them. (2 of the companies listed have paid for a BGC for me in the past.)
In the week that followed the beginning of this 'new (non) requirement', I was contacted for signings by 4 of the 6 companies listed... and not a single one said word one about the 'new (non) requirement'. I accepted 2 of the 4 signings offered and still not a word was said.
Seems to me that this is 'must have $100k E&O' or 'must have Enjoa' hype. Deja vu. Been there, didn't do it. Am still here.
