I always thought the NNA was wrong, but
after reading this board the past week, I believe now they maybe on to something. A high 5 figure or even 6 figure income is possible, just by doing basic math one can see that 5-10 appointments a week can easily bring in $200 apiece or $1000-$2000/wk. Anyone charging less then this is really wasting their time and efforts and is losing out to those "wicked SS's and TC's". If one looks not too deeply at this board, you will see those doing 30 plus signings a week and depositing bank deposits with commas and zeros every week. Isn't this what the NNA said could happen? I do understand that most of the above comes from those who have been at this for sometime, but if one doesn't start, how can one ever build time and experience? I also understand what you see in chat rooms shoudn't be taken as Gospel, but just this week there has been so much boasting about what some make at this day in and day out. That there is little wonder we have new people starting out for the "gold rush", just to get their piece of this incredible pie. Why shouldn't they? Just read this week postings and that should be enough for anyone to get the fire in their belly and make that big money. JMO

Please remember that the "gold rush" the NNA speaks of has some hidden costs, AND alot of the title co's (where the $ is) are NOT hiring the newbies. So many of the tc's are looking for and only using a closer with more than one yr. experience. The NNA doesn't tell the new closers that their certificate exam isn't worth a dime, really doesn't teach what a new closer needs to know, and forgets to mention ALL of the $ a newbie has to spend to market themselves.. let alone the supplies to purchase. This business is like any other business.. the harder you work at it, the more you advertise, the better off you will be. There alot of newbies who "hang out the shingle" and wonder why they aren't gettting called. Just like a store, you gotta spend some $ advertising. Just ask the NNA how much they spend per month advertising.. bets it's more than some of us make in a year.

It's also possible for somebody to become an actor and make $20 million per movie. However, the vast majority of working actors are making significantly less than that.
The one thing you left out of your equation is how to get those 5-10 appointments that can "easily" bring in $100 apiece. If it were that easy, don't you think we'd all be doing those kinds of signings? I've been doing this for close to 4 years now and I have an excellent reputation among the companies I've worked for. Yet my phone isn't ringing with 5-10 $200 offers per week.

My point exactly
To read this board, one would think that all of us are raking in the big signings. I'm doing fine with the $100 plus ones, but I believe when some see the "big money" that some claim, it will only build more competition, thereby diluting the market even more.

Not to mention that the $100 signing is not "net profit". Don't forget to subtract all of your expenses (all of them).... then that $100 gets pretty small!

You must be new here. We've been talking about this for a couple of years now. The wildly increasing number of notaries on this board in CA over the past 2 years is proof of it.
I'm guessing the worst of it is over already. I'm sure not hearing the notaryclasses.com ads on the radio like I was a year ago. I'm not sure if they're even running anymore, which I would take to mean as they've lost their effectiveness in filling up those classes.

Hi PL,
I have been advertising but it seems like the calls are dwindling in CT. What can I do to market myself more so that I continue to get the calls.
I can be reached at 860-997-9970.

FOR PAT
Go to your search engine and type in CT Notaries and start getting yourself on EVERY single board and website you can. Remember.. alot of them have fees attached..but one closing from the website pays for the yr. of advertising.

Re:PJM/MI
I typed in CT Notaries and only town information and searches come up. I was expecting to see Title Companies and Mortgage Companies.

Re: Patricia
If you want to search for title and mortgage companies you need to type in "title company" or "mortgage company". PJM was trying to tell you to sign up with as many notary directories or databases, to advertise your services (such as Notary Rotary, and many others).

Just a couple of hints, Patricia
First, putting your phone number in a Post could be considered advertising. It's against the rules to advertise on the Forum. Your Post could get removed. (Just a word to the wise.)
Second, if you click on the "Add Link To My Profile" box, people will be able to see your Profile easily. Always A Good Thing!
Good luck!

Re: I always thought the NNA was wrong - counterpoint
Yes, they are wrong, but they keep recruiting. No one who listens to their bs and who swallows the bait does any research to find out what they can make.
Those who DO listen to the NNA undercut the crap out of the rest who are really trying to set up a business.
Those who make it over to this board learn not to take peanuts and to think outside the box...to stop being a ninny.
I know myself and another one or two are sticking necks out to let people know not to take the garbage offered. The sword cuts two ways. Those who make it to this board are really trying to develop a business. They will do some undercutting but might not. Those who do will fail anyhow.

It also depends on what part of the US you are in. In NC if I were to charge the same fees I did in CA, I'd be laughed out of business. Then depending on what are you are in, there is gas and so many other fees and costs to consider. And the way the NNA has saturated the market, there are too many NSA's in so many areas.
