I am Worried!
You know how you finally find something in life and your completely happy with it, it fits you like a glove, and it exceeds all your expectations?? Well, thats how I feel about this profession. I love it with all the good and bad. Ive been told Im good at it by both companies and borrowers. I have worked hard for almost 2 years to build my business and create good relationships with companies and now am fearful it will all come crashing down on me because of all this certification and BGC hoopla. I am not in an area that I am flooded with work and I know for a fact that there are others who are doing this around here for lower than I charge. So I am still in the process of trying to build that clientelle that appreciates the good work that I do and will not go fishing for a lower fee. I have recently started a new marketing procedure and it has already paid off for one company and I plan on continuing this. I am not certified, nor a member of the NNA and had no intentions of it. To top matters off, I thought our SOS did routine background checks on applicants for being a notary and come to find out they dont. So I cant even say its done through my state. I feel lost and helpless at this moment that I could lose out on doing something that is so important to me. Granted, I am a survivor and if the walls do come crashing down, I will rebuild. But it will sadden me greatly.

I believe the general consensus is to wait until somebody says it is absolutely necessary. I don't think anyone is rushing on it and in fact Harry is working on something as well. So don't worry yet. Talk to your companies if they are requiring this.

Not sure why you're worried or why you think everything will come crashing down. We'll all just go with the flow when the stuff hits the fan, and then life (or signings) will go on as usual.

Thank Charm for the words of encouragement. Isnt it funny though that their timing on this is around all the holidays? And the situation at hand has me wondering why our state does not do a BGC. That bothers me. This is something else I and others from the state would like to address, but first we have to make sure we still have a job.

Re: I am Worried because........
If a lot of companies jump on this band wagon, I will be out of work. I dont like my future being foretold by someone else. And my significant other would probably tell me the same thing. Dont worry about it. Everyone is right. I normally dont worry about situations I dont have control over, but something tells me I should be able to stand up and say or do something to save my future. I'll figuere it out. I dont take too kindly to people messing with me.

Lisa, you won't be out of work. If any of your companies require this thru the NNA, just ask yourself if it's worth it to be out of some cold hard cabbage to get their certification. There are tons of companies out there! Don't worry about it, the NNA is just trying to keep their pockets lined, might be for sagging membership and not a lot of people biting at the get rich quick schemes they promise. They even sent Harry a threatening letter telling him to curb the verbiage of his members....how's that for silliness? I'll leave it at that, they are watching Harry's site like a hawk because he is working on an alternative plan and they don't like people messing with them!

Whenever I have a possible change/problem at hand that I fear might shake up my world, my husband tells me to 'improvise, adapt and overcome'. So far, I've always landed on my feet. We all have a choice as to when, how and if to react. Keep your head up.

Make a fist...
now raise up one finger, anyone you want... okay if its that one, point it at the NNA...
Okay... this BGC hoopla is a pain in the butt... but look at that finger again... that's how many extra signings you'll have to do to pay for it.
No biggy, this too shall pass.

Re: I am Worried! MY Mom always told me
Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do , but it doesn't get you anywhere That is my 2 cents!

Lisa, I generally think the BGC is a load of garbage. But if the SOS doesn't do it in WI, then I can understand the need for it there. I don't think I'd want someone with a prior fraud or embezzlement conviction getting their hands on my personal information. I also think that it's way too early to determine what direction this is going. But if I thought for one second that not doing it would bring my business crashing down, then I'd do it in a heartbeat. If we get to the point that companies are demanding this, and you think there's something on there that might be an issue (and I'm not in any way insinuating that), order your own BGC first to get an idea of what might show up. Maybe it can be addressed or removed. But don't just decide you will never submit to a BGC even if it sinks your business. That's pennywise, pound foolish. Sometimes you pay the small price for the bigger picture.

Re: Its not having the BGC
that I am worried about. I dont care if I have one. But as I stated in an earlier post, I dont feel I should compromise my identity to satisfy the requirements of someone Im not even sure I trust. Thats why Im upset that our state doesnt do one. I would expect them to do one for the protection of everyone.
And Gary, that was cute

Got ya. But the point is the same.
If it ever came to it (and I seriously doubt that it will), would you let your business come crashing down because you're not sure you want to compromise your identity? I wouldn't. Lisa, it's not worth worrying about right now. This issue is a long way from coming to fruition.

Don't Worry .. Be Happy :)
If you have not lost any business yet over the BGC then just conduct business as normal. Should a company you get lots of business from require it ... then cross that bridge when you come to it. You seem to be conducting yourself in a professional manner .. So for now you are living up to your professional code of ethics and there is nothing to worry about

Re: OK---All Done Worrying :)
Dont Worry- Be Happy. Years ago, I lived by that song. I like the rocking chair bit too. I'll have to remember that one for my kids. I know deep down its senseless to worry, but its been awhile since I have done something that I am completely satisfied with.
