I've had an epiphany...re: Wentworthen...

As if I could get through the mounting posts on the thread to get to the bottom of the whole mélange...anyway, FWIW, I accepted a job from this firm just last Tuesday.

You see, I was looking after an Oranda (Brownie) from my pond that had been severely damaged overnight by some intruder and I had him in a re-hab tank I had purchased that morning. As it happened, the pump in the tank failed by the time I returned home from my 4pm. At apox. 5pm, I received a call from a scheduler at the firm in question asking if I could "do" a mtg signing at 7pm. The scheduler offered me a whopping $35 and I countered at $50, after all the signers were just 2.4 miles from me, had the docs and it was on the way to the WalMart where I had to go to return the pump to keep my dyeing Oranda (Brownie) alive. I said sure, WTH. I return a pump, notarize a mtg and save a fish...all in one night. I'm on it.

As it turns out, the TC (or someone) lost the brws original mtg from 6/06 and I'm there to re-acknowledge the mtg for recording. Borrowers are po'd about the whole thing, but I'm in and out in ten minutes and 2.4 miles closer to the WalMart for a new pump.

I return home with a new, working pump and I feel like a hero. Brownie is happy to have a pump built for a re-hab tank as opposed to the 600whatever spare I have to run the pond in power outages AND I made $50. I'll let y'all know about the 2 week thing. BTW, the scheduler said I had signed up with them over three years ago, but I've never worked for them.

Probably more info. than you wanted to know, but I felt like sharing. Brownie died Thursday morning. I did everything I could do. I will miss him as will his pond mates.

Becca I'm really sorry to hear about Brownie. I know it's hard when a pet dies. Very tough!

Re: I've had an epiphany...do you mean "Worthen?"

Sorry about Brownie, Becca.

$35?? Clear as glass as to why this company has problems getting quality agents. I, like you, probably would have done it if I were already out and about to Walmart...okay for $50 - 2.4 miles and all...but who puts on pantihose for $35 for a 7 pm???

I have a pantihose chart for min. charges...doesn't everyone?

For instance: No pantihose for less than $150 signing on....

Oh, what's use. Sandi would just yell at me for being greedy...probably tell me to lose weight like she did Charles....then my pantihose would jump on so much quicker. Wait! I think we know why she can charge less! Look at her picture. She wears denim jeans to signings. Okay...that explains it. I just had to think all this through.

Re: I've had an epiphany...do you mean "Worthen?"

I'd actually have to own a pair of pantyhose to have a pantyhose chart! I've never worn a dress to a closing. In fact, I haven't worn a dress since 1999.

I did go home and change the other morning though rather than go to a closing after the following happened. I ran by the barn to give the horses hay, and it had rained the night before. Kismet decides she doesn't want to share her hay with Cid, so she pins her ears at him, he takes off running and bucks kicking up a slew of mud which lands on me, then Kismet decides to chase him, and I get hit again. Then to top it off, Cid (who is a HUGE horse) decides to grab a mouthful of hay, lift his head up over mine, and slobber hay in my hair. Good thing I had plenty of time to kill!

Re: I've had an epiphany...do you mean "Worthen?"

I do believe embracing the sticky garment commonly known as pantihose must be a Texas thing. I still buy mine in bulk from http://onehanesplace.com.

Use the old ones to protect and secure doc packages on the way back to the TC. Drop them in the top and use a bobby pin to secure leg parts around the top of the package. Loop from bottom to top. Pin them and stick your card under the bobby pin.

Not. J/k of course.

Grins back to you, Lisa.

Gosh, I love this place. Who else could get my humor on pantihose and bobby pin armor for documents?

We have a world of our own.

Oh My Goodness! You all need to get your facts right! This was not a complete closing! It was a witness mortgage only! No printing involved! Borrowers already had the motgage docs! What, are you all trying to make my company look bad?

So, I guess you think that's not reasonable either? Correct?

I said it was just a mortgage signing. Don't be so touchy.

Did you really expect to come here, post what you did and get praise?

Reality check on isle 5, please!

I certainly wasn't looking for praise from anyone...Not to mention, I see how people on this forum attack others, who don't agree with what they think or say.

But it's "All Good" because, like I mentioned before...Anyone that we call for a closing "Has an option to say no"

I'm afraid you took care of that last night with the 'educational lecture' on a notary forum. This is why networks are forming and Tcs are being heavily marketed by us.

153937 last afternoon Cherie...after your lecture, you said quote, "I hope you take this as a learning experience." Who you trying to kid? Bad move on a notary forum, give it up already and re-read all the posts that followed yours.

Independent Contractor waits at least 30 minutes and borrower(s) does

Taken directly from your site. I would never, I repeat, never sit around for 30 minutes for a no show with docs I printed double sets of for $25.00...That is an INSULT!
Furthermore it is an insult to do MY job and if the borrower folds at the table to punish ME for it by cutting my fee in half. WE don't meet to review docs. We go to conducy a witness signing. YOU still get paid! Get off it already.

Re: Your fee structure is ridiculous...Cherie

YOUR fee structure is designed to attract inexperience. Many of us on this board are professional notaries with at least 3 years experience, (many with more) and even $90 with e-docs is still an insult for many of us that take this profession seriously. I don't care how you slice the HUD, you are keeping the larger portion of the pie, while we do 90% of the work.

Way to many SS's seem to forget that without the notary public, they would not have a business. Yet they see fit to pile on the instructions that borderline on NSA's becoming employees of the SS and then dictate what they will pay or won't pay.

If you are truly willing to negotiate with professionals, then I suggest that you remove your fee structure from your website completely. I am rural and my fees reflect that fact and they are non-negotiable because everything but e-docs are figured into those fees.

Re: I've had an epiphany...do you mean "Worthen?"

Cherie - Sylvia has had a signing service for years. You might want to take a page from her book and think about screening your notaries better. She offers a fair contractual price and is not so greedy that she spreads herself too thin. It's when you start trying to handle too much with so little and offering so little that you get yourself into a jam.

I know another lady in El Paso who has four notaries working for her and she qc's all her documents.

If people had not been so greedy and so determined to broker not only the services they could personally oversee but ALL the notary services far and wide, there would be a better system in place.

Re: I've had an epiphany...do you mean "Worthen?"...Cherie

Yes you did!!! You probably are getting a whirlwind of "No's" and you came on here to bash us. I believe now you are back peddeling and the current is too swift!!!
Charm said it right last night...this was the wrong time for this. I had one of my worst weeks this week...I made some mistakes I never make because I was trying to help out these SS in a pinch. I had fax backs and was not told until the next day...when they had their package in their hands what the problem was. Now I did not charge for the fax backs becauase I did not know about them up front. I got the call for the signing and one hour later was meeting with the borrower. Who I might add was already upset with the lender. Do you not realize that we are the battering ram these borrowers lash out at becasue they are face to face with us. Then after all that you want to offer $50.00. You have insulted my intelligence. I am offended.
I have a question...did you post this dissertation on the other boards?

I have koi at my OC home and I enjoy going out and hand feeding them, they all have great personalities. Most people don't think of fish in terms of personality but they really do have personalities.
