Notarizing Deed of Trust

I am new and am in the process of doing my homework for closings so this is a basic question.
On the Deed of Trust there are two sections to be notarized. The first is to notarize the grantors. If there is more than one sometimes there are two separate acknowledgements or they are included in one. Then there is another acknowledgement for the undersigned officer, the agent of the person secured by the foregoing deed of trust. I know I need to notarize for the borrowers but do I notarize the section. It seems like it is to notarize the preparer of the deed? Also should the preparer of the deed info be filled out when we receive it?

I have done numerous searches on this sight and can't seem to get the answers.

Greatly appreciate it.

Sorry for the spelling error on sight and forgot to clearly state that I am wondering whether or not we notarize the undersigned officer acknowledgement. My logic is telling me no but thought I'd check.

You can only notarize the people that are appearing in front of you. Which is pretty much only going to be the borrowers. The other section would be notarized after the docs get back to the title company or lender.

The only usual exception to this is when you close for IREP in their offices. The Bank officer is always present, his/her name is on the deed, and they want it signed/notarized. Same might also apply if you close in the offices of other banks.

The response in this particular thread was just an answer to the question. Nothing "fresh" about it.

BTW I believe "she" is a "he".

Sandy42 wonders why Calinotary is “fresh” with his remarks. (“Fresh” is a word my 71 yr. old mother uses, but never mind – it’s all semantics.)

First sandi, this original question is so badly put and so screwed up I was actually proud of Calinotary. “She” only corrected the original poster. Here’s what I would have said to the original question:

Dear God, please say you aren’t being paid to do this? The preparer? Where do you get this?

I appreciate new questions better than most and normally take the high road. Calinotary definitely took the high road as (She/He) could have written something else entirely and would have been on point. To post about Cali is a personal agenda. The original poster needs some help for sure – and Cali had the opportunity to really do something negative, but (She/He) didn’t.

Try re-reading Cali’s posts with a sense of how to do it right. You might be surprised. And if you don’t know by now whether Cali is a She or a He, then you have no right to comment about “freshness” as you haven't been here long enough.

but...you are correct, whether both accounts or not, Brenda.

A kinder, gentler Cali? No - I think not.

Me thinks it was "a moment". Don't get me wrong - I love the Cali moments - however, the "sandi" was so far off base....she was the Pickle between 2nd and 3rd.

A Pickle that is always relished. A pickle that always makes the news. I like my Pickle's Dill.

Sandi-with-claws is a dill pickle for sure. Good post!

It wasn't just a moment. We're always telling people to learn how to do this job BEFORE they go out on signings, so when somebody comes on here and asks a question that shows they're making the effort to do just that, I completely respect that and will do what I can to assist.

If he had prefaced the question with "I've got my first signing in an hour" I'm sure my tone would have been a teensy weensy bit different.

Don't let the doc

confuse you. This is something that we all have to learn and it comes by knowledge of notary law and a little experience. Don't let the doc confuse you. The purpose of the doc doesn't matter. I think when one is new they see the doc and "oh it's a deed, one I haven't seen before, what do I do". You can get so caught up in the doc that you fail to keep it simple. If the person is before you and they are to sign and you are to notarize then that is what you do. It doesn't matter whether it's a multimillion dollar deal or just Aunt Besse saying it is ok for Jim to take the prize cow to the fair to show.

The idea that Cali said anything fresh is to stupid to address. Yes I said stupid.

Dang, I thought Cali really needed a pat on the back..

I'm glad there were a few posters online to step in and give him one.
I was late to the party as usual and when I read the original post I thought he/she might be in for rocky waters.
Cali, GOOD FOR YOU...
I agree the poster is doing his/her homework ahead of time and I'm proud of you for helping out.
