OT..Jersey Boy
I was visiting with my parents and they were telling me stories of their trip to Cape May. Anyway they had stopped for gas and a gentleman proceeded to pump the gas..this kinda scared my parents thinking someone is messing around with the car. So they just paid him and off they went. Later that day when they were talking to some other vistors they stated that it was againt the law in Jersey to pump your own gas. Something about drive-off. Is it really againt the law to pump your own gas in Jersey?

It really is AGAINST the LAW to pump your own gas in New Jersey.
This can be both a great convenience in lousy weather, and a BIG inconvienience if your in a rush to get somewhere.
I don't know when the rule went into effect (before I was born). :-)

That's backwards
Initially you were not allowed to pump gas. The guy that did pump the gas also washed your windows and checked your oil. Often he had a uniform and hat. If you asked nice he'd even check your tires. My brother used to open the little wing window to smell the fumes and Moms favorite gas station attendent always slamed it shut on his nose! I think NJ and OR are hold outs myself.

In Oregon, it's a job thing. Gives jobs mostly to those
starting out.
