OCTOBER 5, 2006
Thanks for being patient for the latest update.
We had a meeting yesterday with Dr. Kim to go over the results of Taylor's MRI. The test showed a couple of things. First, Taylor's epidural, which the doctors thought wasn't working, was working and she is getting a comfortable dose of pain relief. Second, the tumor has spread.
As we had mentioned to everyone a little while ago, the tumor that Taylor has is very aggressive. We had also mentioned that since day one of her diagnosis our number one priority has been to keep Taylor comfortable.
After many discussions, on a personal and professional side, Laura and I have decided to bring Taylor home. Bringing Taylor home means that we are no longer going to give her chemotherapy. The next round of chemo could very well do more harm than good, resulting in more time in the hospital and that is not what is best for Taylor. Taylor needs to be home.
Hospice will be providing the care for Taylor and we are working very closely with them to make sure that Taylor is comfortable. Quality of life is what it is all about right now.
The plan is to bring her home on Tuesday the 10th. We want people to visit but we are asking to please give us 3 days to get settled into our "new" house and to work with Hospice in learning how to take better care of Taylor. After the 3 days you are more than welcome to come and visit and see Taylor's new "Princess Room". However, if guests become too much for her to handle, please respect that we may need to put your visit on hold. Our number one priority is the best interest for Taylor.
There are not enough words to begin to thank all of you. The outpouring, as overwhelming as it has been, we consider such an honor. Even though Taylor's journey in life is moving to the home stretch at a speed we despise, we are grateful for so many things. The first being the absolute love and joy that Taylor and Cameron bring to us each and every moment. The second is the love of our family, friends and Taylor's entire medical team here at DHMC. We are also so blessed to have the never ending dedication, love and friendship of Dr. Bill Storo who continues to support us through Taylor's journey. There are angels on earth.
A quote was shared with us the other day, one that rings such truth: "If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it." Our faith, the love of all of our family and friends and most importantly our Princess Taylor, will get us through these tough times.
To all of you with children out there-- give them a hug, a kiss or a phone call today letting them know that they are loved and that they are our most precious gift of all. Appreciate even the little things they do to capture your heart.
Until tomorrow...........................We love you all.
