Passports as ID...

I have a re-sign scheduled for tomorrow. The borrower is a doctor, and the last time I went to the closing his Kentucky Driver's License was expiring the next day. (The docs had to be mailed to Ohio for his wife's signature, and she did not keep the appointment, so that is why this is a resign). They are overnight docs to the borrower so when I called him to confirm the appt. time I asked if he's received his docs and if his driver's license were now current. He said he did not have time to get them renewed. He said he does have a passport. This is a Quicken loan and I do not remember seeing any other forms to fill out for the passport as the ID. Any advise, or should I just call the SS? TIA for all the input.

Re: Passports as ID...You can call the SS for instructions .

or you can check your State's guidelines for ID. Most places consider a Passport just fine as ID. I do not know your particular State's requirements however. Calling the SS on this type of a question may indicate to them that you are not comfortable with what you are doing.

It depends on what message you want to send.

Having seen the doctor's then-current driver's license during the previous trip and knowing that he will present a (current?) passport this trip, I'd be comfortable that he is who he says he is.

Why do you have to ask an ID question? As a notary you're responsible for knowing your state's notary laws. What would you do if you didn't know any of this in advance and were just presented with a passport as ID when you arrived at the appointment?

As for calling the signing service, why on earth would you think they know the answer to a notary law question? Do you really not know the proper way to get answers to any questions you have about notarization procedures?

Re: Thanks to you all.. and CaliNotary...

I am very well aware of my state notary laws and that a Passport is an acceptable form of ID. My QUESTION was that with the Quicken loan, I remember only seeing a small, two line section to fill out with the Borrowers DRIVERS LICENSE number and expiration date, so do they have a different form they can send due to the Passport being the identifying document or should I attach a loose visual verification form that I have. I have been performing home closings for over two years. Here in Kentucky, we do not come across the issues of Passports very often. If fact, this will be the first time I have every SEEN one. So I guess I will learn something new tomorrow and I hope everyday I learn something new! Have a great day all.

after I re-read it, I sound like I am asking if it could be accepted as a valid ID. Thanks for having my back anyway!! How's the weather your way?

Personally I'm not as comfortable with passports because

I don't see them as often and for me it would be much harder to spot a fraudulent one.

Re: Thank Sandie, I think he misunderstood the question...

Yeah, I definitely misunderstood what you meant. Unfortunately on this board it's definitely not a stretch of the imagination for a signing agent to have to ask what is acceptable ID and what isn't.

So I revise my answer. I'd just cross out the word "driver's license" and put "passport" instead. I wouldn't even waste my time calling anyone to see what to do. If the passport is all that's available, then it's all that's available. And I can't imagine that there's a lender out there who would have a problem with that being used as ID.

Sarcastic? Moi??? Why I do declare I have no idea what you could possibly mean by that.

Tell me Sandi, do you and Dennis B. share custody of the stick that's up both of your asses? Do each of you stick in one end and meet in the middle, or do you have a rotating schedule? Would it be possible for you to use a shorter stick, perhaps one that's not poking all the way up to the part of your brain that controls your language skills? Maybe then you'd be able to write a sentence that's structured better than one a 3rd grader could come up with.

First of all CaliNotary I don't have a stick up my ass and I don't pretend I know everything like you do or am I sarcastic like you are to most knowing everything in the world that you do. Most things you post are always putting people down or something. SO, take that and shove it.

Don't kill the messanger because you don't like the message

Sometimes I agree that Cali could couch his language a little less colorful, HOWEVER, I've NEVER seen him post erroneous information (maybe he has, but not that I can recall). So read for content and not for style and you'll find his information helpful. There a some people on this board that post with all sugar and sweetness and really don't know their behind from (well you know the rest of the saying). Because something is said sweetly, don't mistake it for fact.

Not saying I don't like him just saying always seems he is sarcastic and a know it all. I do read for content and sometimes his information is helpful but he critizes alot.

I have the exact opinion as you Sandi,

about you. From what I've read I think your posts are sarcastic and truthfully I am trying to decide if calling people "know it alls" is really a compliment coming from you. So far everyone you have called "know it all" has given correct info many, many times.

Jenny I would have to agree with you

Sandi has no problem being sarcastic and rude to any number of posters, but if anyone else does it shame on them. Sandi look in the mirror.

Almost all of the time if Cali critizes it is very deserved.

Cali can be beyond harsh, no doubt about it, but in this thread he made a mistake and owned it. What I would think was a mistake anyone could make and yet he is told he is sarcastic and rude. I guess he gave them what they asked for didn't he?
