Program for recieving edocs
I am a new notary. I would like to know if I will have to purchase software to recieve edocs? Also, do I have to have dual trays on my laser printer? If so why? Thanks

Hi Nichole, Welcome aboard! Many lenders use certain software to print their docs. The will send you a link to the viewer with the docs, that you download and install on your computer. It REALLY is necessary to have DSL or other high speed connection. The docs can be pretty big. You also want to make sure your ISP-email provider will allow you to download big files. A dual tray laser printer is essential, because loan packages often have a mix of legal and letter sized pages all mixed in. The printer has to be able to switch effortlessy between the sizes. YOU do not want to have to babysit your printer and spend precious time switching paper trays. It would be a nightmare.

dual tray printers....
are great, although a lot of nsa's out there only have single trays. i started with a single tray and printed everything on legal paper if the packages were not separated, and most are not, and never had anyone have a problem with this. you can buy a brother 5150D laser for as little as $149 factory refurbished and using the 50 page input for your letter size it works as a dual tray printer.

Re: dual tray printers....
Your responces are very helpful. Thank You. I just bought a HP3055 and it is a single tray with capabilities of holding legal size paper.

Re: dual tray printers....
Often you can buy a second tray on ebay or secure mart for less than the OEM. I started with one and after some cashflow got a second tray. Woot! Woot!
Also buy an extra print cartridge incase your original runs out suddenly.
You might also want to buy a cheap back up printer like a Brother's incase your printer dies. You can may be risk it early on with one printer. Or, know where your local Kinko's in. Not the best or cheapest strategy but better than disappointing a client and blowing a long term relationship.
Good luck and welcome.
