Questions about Laser Printer

Hello all,

Which is the best Double Tray Laser Printer out on the market right now? Does this Double Tray Laser Printer automatically pick up pages whether they're Letter Sized or Legal Size? How much does this particular printer cost? How many pages per minute does it print? How much does the toner cost for this printer? About how many pages can one toner print out total? Any helpful information would be appreciated. Thanks for your time in regards to this matter.

I have 2 Brother HL5250 DLT's

They are $270 out the door from costco. Prints 32 PPM and has the second tray in the box. Works great, prints well and I have refilled the original 1/2 full cart. once so far. Is was advertised that the intial cart would go 3500 pgs. I got 2850 out of it but I did not turn the DPI down to 300 right of the bat. It is advertised to print 7000 on a full load. I purchased a aftermarket cart for $45.00 where the OEM is $90.00.

Is this Brother PCl 6 compliant?

I have heard (not sure if true) that you cannot use "cloned toner cartridges" for Brother printers? Is this true? I have a HP 1200 (with the copier attachment) and HP 1300 dual tray but the 1200 is over 4 years and its still great but printers don't last much more than 5 years when you print as much as I do or at least that is what I have learned on this message board.

I have heard good things about the Brother Multifunction Laser 8640. Anyone have this laser machine and is it as good as I have heard? Approx. 31 pages per minute.

Joan I have 2 dual tray Brother 8640's and they are great! I buy my toner cartridges at Costco. Actually I think mine prints 32-35 pgs depending on whether two sided printing is involved. Speed and quality is no problem.

Brother Insights

I have the Brother 8220. It is great, but it depends on what you want.

First, you can compare the Brother Printers on their website.

Second, I might go for a wireless one, I believe a HL5200N. I tend to use my laptop more and roam around the house so wirelss is a plus for me.

Third, I buy toner from tonerkits.com and do refills(alway keep a new cartridge handy just in case). I have had different models of the Brother and always refilled on my own.

Forth, most of the Brother printers can have a second tray. Still you need to tell the computer via the software that you have it and which paper is in which tray. Then, you can easily printer mixed paper PDF files.

Fifth, my Brother MFC-8220 prints 21 pages a minutes. Plenty fast for me. Got t on sale with a coupon from Office Max for around $200.00.
