Questions regarding profile info

Brand spanking new to this--was attempting to complete my profile info--please explain to me what "home inspection" means, and E-docs--Just finished certification class yesterday, but these terms were not discussed.

E-docs are loan documents.....

sent to your e-mail address for you to print and take to the borrower for signing. Sometimes they are posted on a secure server and you have to login to the server to retrieve the documents. I don't do home inspections perhaps someone else can explain those to you.

have fun................ Larry

Re: E-docs are loan documents.....

Larry: So they are basically just emailed documents, which might come through as attachments (pdf)?

Yep....

Probably,at least for me, 80% of my signings are e-doc. The rest are overnighted to me or the borrower.

Re: E-docs are loan documents.....

Susan
they can come through as attachments (pdf is one format), or there could be a link to a website to download them with one of the viewers such as Swiftview.

As has been suggested, read through this message board and you will learn a lot.

A word to the wise

Susan, before you go any further may I strongly suggest that you start reading this board, starting with today's posts and working backwards, skipping most of the OT posts, although sometimes you will find a real gem hiding in the middle of that thread. If you come across something you don't understand, use the big orange search button. Don't know where or who taught the certification class, but truely if they didn't even cover the term "e-docs", I question how much more they left out. Please, please, prepare yourself before you set youself out as a NSA (Notary Signing Agent). You are dealing one of, if not the borrower's largest investment -- their home. How much market research did you do before you plunked down your money for your course? This is not an easy time to try and break into this business. Your competion will be notaries that been doing loan signings for years and their loan count is well into the thousands. And WHATEVER you do, do not even try and solicit title companies until you have at least 100 closed loans. There are some Signing Services out there that will take on beginners and hold your hand and lead you and guide you. Some even have a three strike policy. Title companies on the other hand expect the people they hire to know what they are doing and be able to do it with little or no assistance from them.

You may feel that this is cruel, that I've forgotten what it's like to be new, etc., etc. Believe me we've heard it all before from many who come on this board with a feeling of entitlement. And if you think I've been harsh, I suggest that when you start reading this board you will quickly discover how helpful this post has been. Notice that I said "when" not "if" you start reading this board. I'm already crediting you with having some degree of intelligence and being a self starter, because if you are not a self starter you will not make it in this business.

Re: A word to the wise

Thanks for the advice. Thought I had done my homework with regards to selecting and attending this particular certification seminar--learned more about the instructors previous "students'" glorious fees that they had supposedly collected, than receiving any substantive training or knowledge. Very, very disappointed in the experience and I came away feeing that I had wasted my money and 3 hours of time.

Re: A word to the wise

Susan, you will get a better education here from reading this board. (IMHO.) And, as far as my remark as to "isn't that the truth" I do not mean it negatively to you. It's the idea that such as you have put into your own words (certification course content) makes a better NSA.

Re: A word to the wise

Susan are you referring to the mandatory 3 hour "course" that you take to become a Notary in the state of Florida? If so this would in no way cover your duties as a Notary Signing Agent. You would need separate training for this, or learn by the seat of your pants but please which ever you do, you need to know your stuff before you start doing loan work.
Where are you located?

Re: A word to the wise

This was a certified Signing Agent Course, three hours long, offered by an Orlando based notary company. The instructor read the manual to the class, and literally spent most of his time telling us about his previous students' success stories. I have been a real estate legal assistant for many years, as well as a notary --I was hoping to obtain some valuable information from this seminar, but unfortuneately that was not the case. I certainly know I am not qualified at this point, even though I am "certified".

Susan, Re: Questions regarding profile info

Welcome!

May I suggest that you first begin your search (on this forum)
with thread/post number 33325.

Use the Orange tab button to find it.

It was written by Dorothy in April, 2005.

When I first began doing loan signings
this year, I asked a question and Dorothy suggested
that I start with thread/post number 33325.

VERY HELPFUL! PLEASE READ IT!

Pam

Re: Susan, Re: Questions regarding profile info

I guess this proves why some title companies only want certified signing agents and not uncertified Notaries. I hope Susan has had her NNA bgc.
