RM in Niantic...
I've been asked by two lowballer companies to handle a RM in Niantic, highest bidder: $80
What in the world are they thinking???

Oh, oh!
I hope it's not the one that I was called for on Tuesday! Supposedly the signing was going to happen late in the morning but something happened and I was called ~1:30 PM. The borrowers had had the docs since Monday. I called and called, but just got a very generic answering machine message in a synthesized voice. Eventually I called the signing service back and asked for another number. The signing service lady said she'd get back to me. A while later I called her again. Supposedly Mr. borrower wasn't feeling well and the signing had to be postponed, probably until today (Wednesday).
The borrowers' last name begins with S and the name of their road begins with A. Sound familiar? Are we being played?

Yes, I believe we are. I have had two different SS's calling me for this one, maybe they'll get a clue and realize that they need to seriously up the ante on the fee.

Re: Oh, oh!
You didn't accept for the fee posted ($80)? Hopefully this is a case where the company is trying to find someone cheaper...$80 is too low for a RM, even if borrower does have the docs.

Yup. Sounds as if we're being "shopped".
There's no way I'd accept $80 for a Reverse Mortgage. Period.
While we must all avoid (even the appearance of) price fixing, we should not fall prey to the lowball fees that are being offered.
Whether Howie gets the RM or I get it (I'd rather it were I, Howie would rather it were he!), I'm sure we're asking for a REASONABLE fee in the same ballpark.

Great point, Ernest. The mission here is to charge reasonably the same fee so that we erradicate the lowballer companies from CT, and get paid what we are worth!
Hmmm, Southeastern CT notary association starting to bud here?????
Think of what we could become...
