SS not paying/Late etc.

I read this area daily and one of the most posted issues of late is the non-paying or late Signing Services. Just a general question here; you guys having difficulties in this area, do you have signed Terms and Conditions for your business that address these type issues? Just wondering

good idea, but the general lender/TC population would tell us what we can do with it.

Re: SS not paying/Late etc. Exactly as Charm says because

there are just too many notaries out there and in particular there are many who will work for nothing just to get the work. They grab the low paying jobs, depress the market for everyone else and then when they go out of business the NNA goes out and creates a whole new flock of them and cycle keeps repeating itself.

Re: Charles

Its the signing companies that rip notaries off. They go into to business and make money and have us notaries do the work and don't pay us and make the business market bad. Its terrible. Doesn't matter what or who makes what its the few signing companies that makes bad business for everyone.

Sandi, It's the law of supply and demand, it does matter and

Signing companies don't rip off notaries its notaries who rip-off notaries. You take low price signings and as long as you do that you will cause the prices to be depressed. The signing companies are just doing what they are suppolsed to geting the job done for the least cost possible and you anre not doing your job, getting the most for your effort. It is just as simple as that.

Thanks for your comments

Folks, I have read your comments and wish to offer the following. First off I understand the market is saturated. That goes without saying. I may not get a lot of these SS signings but when I do they know they have ran into a professional business. The Terms and Conditions are just that. If they don't endorse them it's obvious they might be one of these SS company's that don't have a good track record and may not be worth my effort. The ones who hire my company know that in those Terms and Conditions are protections for the hiring company and well as the notary. They were professionally drawn up and work very well.
Yes I know there are several out there that are only out for the buck and will take the lowest bid. But they are also the first ones to complain here about getting paid.
This is one main reason we market the title companies. We don't sign up for SS's even though we do get calls from them. I guess the bottom line is this - If you don't agree to the "Terms and Conditions" for my company we won't do business with you. You know, that's okay being known as a professional well organized company and maintaining that reputation is very important to me and if I don't get a few jobs because of that - Oh Well; My integrity is more important that $150.00

OOps

But they are also the first ones to complain here about NOT getting paid.

? for Dale - how many actually sign?

I just can't see any employee of a T/C or SS agreeing to sign such a doc. Odds are, they'd have to take it to mgmt, who in turn might want THEIR atty to look it over.

So, honestly, how many times has anyone agreed/signed & returned it to you?
How many simply never called you again?
How many jobs has it taken from you and given to someone else?
How many non-payment issues has it really saved you from (rhetorical) vs how many clients?

It took almost a year and a half of full-time signings before I hit my first no-pay. For me and I must assume then for others as well, it's just not the huge risk that these boards might make it appear. I have to agree with others - it definitely seems relative to the fees you charge. Work cheap, and you work with an entirely different clientelle I guess.

Edit - Dale, I did not mean to imply ...

that YOU "work cheap"!!! Meant it as just a general statement.

Re: Edit - Dale, I did not mean to imply ...

I did not take offence. We don't do bargin signings. Sure it costs us signing jobs, but notarial activity is not the primary source of income for the company. We have done several signings with these agents and the Terms and Conditions are company policy. I feel this way and its very simple - if there are no problems in signing the terms and conditions with the hiring company they are an SS who is honest and above board. Here's a thought - a notary signing up for a signing service not only pays them for the pleasure but must agree to their Terms and Conditions. . .Right? Hmmmmmmm

Re: ? for Dale - how many actually sign?

Hello Renee
Let me adress your questions
1. We market our own T/C's and they have no problem with the T&C's. In fact they know they are dealing with a professional business.
2. We don't sign up for SS companies, however we do on occasion get calls from them. Yes we have lost jobs due to our T&C's, quotes etc.
3. Howmany times has anyone agreed - every time or we don't do business with them.
4. How many never called again - I can't answer a question I can't measure.
5. How many jobs has it taken from us - I don't know, maybe several with regard to SS's. But that's okay I would rather have the , how do I say . . .the less reputable ones not call rather than do their signing and go through all the problems of getting paid or even getting paid at all. My time is worth more than that.
6. How many non-payment issues - None! Only one past the first late period requirement with the 10% pentalty. Oh yes, we have continued to get business from them.

There are several who settle for a Ford Focus and others for a BMW. They will both get you where you want to go. You get what you pay for.
