Voice mail from notary rotary
Why did I receive a message saying "Please update your profile. If this hasn't been taken care of by the 15th of Nov. you will be deleted from the active notary list. My fee for membership is not do until January of next year. Needless to say I am not very happy about this. I did change my e-mail recently on my profile. Please get back to me on this subject asap

Sandra, it is a great thing for everyone that is still in the business. If the profile database was never cleaned up, you'd eventually have 50 notaries in your area that no longer work.. This is for the actives to remain active. Liken it to cleaning out your closet. All you have to do is click on your profile scroll to the bottom and click update, you don't have to change anything, just to let Harry know you are still operating as a notary.

Sandra -
Premier Members will NOT be disabled or deleted. For brevity's sake, we did not explain every conceivable action / outcome in our generic message. The vast majority of notaries listed on our site are free, basic members - they will be deleted if their profiles are not current.

While I understand the need for "washing" the database every now and then, and agree it's a good idea, my automated message call came while I WAS IN A SIGNING, and hence I hung up as soon as I realized it was an automated message before it got to the important part.
A suggestion, as this is and internet forum, email would be a better method of spreading the message. I would still be wondering what the message was if it were not repeated here in the forum.

I agreed that this like this should be notified by email with more details in the message. I just paid for my membership last month; almost jump out of my skin when i heard that.

Yes, I agree it would be better to receive this type of messages via email since it is an internet forum. Perhaps, a link to their profile would do best to ask people to update theirs.

I received this message both via email and phone at office. I understand Charm's problem though, so maybe just email would be good. JHO!

I suspect that Harry just wants to make sure that no one
comes screaming that they were not notified and then lost their profile. Not being Harry that is just my stab in the dark. I am sure that there would be some real mad people if their profile got deleted and they believed that they lost business as a result. I think its CYA.

I agree, an email would have been better. And how much did that mass phone call cost? Would have been cheaper with an email.

Don't you ever spring clean?
Harry,
Thank you for taking the time and effort to contact profile holders, both current and not current. I for one appreciate the fact you have tried to cover all bases and used all means possible to make sure that no one was overlooked. I had received an email so was already aware of the need to update my profile. From regularly reading this board, I knew phone calls had been made and received by other notaries so was already aware of the need to update my profile. So the call I received on Sunday was not a surprise. Even though I had already updated my profile after receiving the email, I still opened my profile, checked the information (without changing anything) and clicked submit.
I can only imagine the grief coming your way if you only sent emails, and an email for a working notary bounced because they didn’t get the message as a result of not updating their profile on a regular basis. I can only imagine the grief coming your way if you only called, but the phone contact information for a working notary was outdated because they didn’t update their profile on a regular basis. I can only imagine the grief coming your way if you only posted on this board, but not everyone read AND comprehended the message that you were asking them to update their profile before the database was purged of out-of-date information cluttering up the works for those of us who are still working.
Harry, you will get no grief from me the fantastic job you are doing. I would prefer to get the message more than once than not at all.

Suggestion to Harry
As so many felt that you were taking up their valuable air time with a recorded message and my understanding is that if you would have done a bulk email that a great many of them would not have gone through because it would have kicked in a lot of spam blockers, my suggestion is to have in the rules and regs that profiles have to be updated once a year or they will be erased. If people know going in that those are the rules and do not follow them, so be it. You might even put in a check box, "Do you want to be reminded to update?" Just some ideas off the top of my head, but I for one will be glad to get the unactive ones removed from the list. I can imagine a SS or TC frustration to click on name after name and see nothing written in the profile and that it hasn't been updated for over one year.
