Whose better?

Who's better, McAfee, or Norton?

I don't know what the most recent Norton looks like, but my McAfee has virus protection, a firewall, and a spam killer. It does the job very well.

Both are the same, but I like Norton as it has more products for add ons and compatability. I had McAffee for a year before switch to Norton.

I used to like Norton but the latest versions are very obtrusive/intrusive. I'm currently using Zone Alarm and I like it, its been good. I am not familiar with McAfee.

Avast and it's free!

Go to their website and check it out. I had Norton, but my computer guy said Avast is better and it's free.

I have McAfee and I like it - had Norton where I used to work and it interfered with a lot of the print utilities I was using.

ZoneAlarm Security suite

And I used to be in the Internet security business.
This is hands down the best.
PC Magazine also agrees

The company I bought my PC from recommended AVG Virus protection. It's free and works great. It rated higher then Norton or McAfee.

And there you have it. Clear as mud.

Now you've got five different products to consider. I will say that before I bought my new computer (which came with a 1 year subscription to McAfee), I used Zone Alarm and AVG. Loved them both and they're always highly recommended by various PC mags. And they're free.

I'm currently using NOD32, also a free program.

Beware of Norton

Their anti-virus is great stuff. I udes to have the corporate version, or the cheap simple anti-virus.

Reliable, simple, good.

But their damn Norton Internet Security is the most evil piece of software ever written. It's the firewall from hell. I forget who mentioned print problems, but I can guarantold ya that it's NIS that is causing them. It can work if you get it configured just right but its a major PITA Grrrrrrr...... (P.S. If you use a DSL router you already have all the firewall you need anyway)

Somewhere in the middle is their System Works. It's a great big package of all sorts of software gizmos: some good, some bad, some ugly. If you use the "System Doctor" that runs in the background the whole time and gives you the little stop light you really wouln't need a virus... that friggin thing will slow your computer to a crawl all by itself.

You absolutely must have some anti-virus... but the KISS law applies here.

Re: Beware of Norton

I chose not to update Internet Security System in 2006, and had so many problems with it trying to get me to update it, I took it all off my computer.
Now, maybe it would've been an easy fix for a techie, but that isn't me.
I re-installed McAfee,without any issues.
