i'm the sucker tonight
Got a call for a last minute deal from a SS claiming to be Pro Signers or something along those lines. He asked me my fee, I told him $100 (a stand-alone HELOC, the property is RIGHT around the corner), he accepted.
I got the confirmation.... it came from SOX By that time I'd already made contact with the borrower.
Ya know.... you do your reading, you do your research, and then they find a way to sneak around your education.

Re: i'm the sucker tonight - drop them in the grease
and don't do it.
They prey on people like you because they can make you feel responsible for their poor borrowers. HORSE HOCKEY. They are the liars and the frauds, my friend.
Tell them to kiss your closerchris grits.

I would still call them and tell them because of their rep for non payment you cannot do the signing and tell them to find another sucker. They misrepresented themselves to you, had they told you they were SOX you wouldn't have accepted it.

Call and tell them that unless they send your fee via paypal tonight, you will have to decline due to their horrible reputation.

Yeah, I bailed :)
I called the borrower back and apologized, told him that I was unable to print the docs (while I was looking at them). Called SOX back and told them that I was unable to make it at the scheduled time and left it at that.
Then I took my wife to the same property where the borrower was staying at and we enjoyed cocktails at one of their fine drinking establishments.
SO, I guess that I owe SOX a thanks for the idea to go there tonight

I think you handled it well with the borrower, but you should have told SOX exactly why you weren't going to do the signing. They need to know that more and more of us aren't putting up with their crap any longer.

You are not obligated to the job.
You accepted under false pretenses....maybe fraud in the inducement. At any rate, they misrepresented themselves to you. It's a shame they have stooped so low.

Re: i'm the sucker tonight. No you aren't.
Just had a deja vu moment. Yes, they did get me, too. I just want to comment on a NEW RED FLAG: When the Scheduler insists upon giving you the B's phone # so you can call RIGHT AWAY...& they'll get that CO out to you 'within an hour'--It's SOX...no matter what name they are using. Nice little hook there...they make you feel obligated because you 'confirmed' with the B. (who, in my case, happened to be a neighbor & ,yes, I felt obligated to my neighbor. Nice, sweet... If you did do the signing, just file a BBB complaint on Day 1 of when you should have gotten your check. That way, it only takes about 2 months to get paid.

Great post Lee. VERY good information. This company is sickening.

Re: i'm the sucker tonight. No you aren't.
I cut my teeth with SOX...and they were a good co.... a decade ago. I know better, have known better for years--but they still got me. They use Fox & Signing Solutions... slur their words... probably use a whole bunch of other 'sounds like' names. But, I'm guessing that cute little trick of giving the B's #... I've never had a Scheduler do that before... is a tip-off. I want everybody to know this.

PayPal in advance
Tell them due to their lie and reputation, you would be happy to do the signing provided they deposit the fee into your paypal account prior to the signing. Otherwise, do not reward these liars by doing the signing.

Re: PayPal in advance
closerchris and everyone else who responded to that - you guys rock!!!! i say way to stand up to them. those people called me today too. $75.00 for overnight docs on a refi. i told him i charge $100.00 and couldn't do it. he went by the name "pro signers". it seems like a good rule of thumb that if the company tries to jip you down on your fee in the very beginning, they won't be easy to work for and will never be satisfied with you. cheers everybody!!!!
