An interesting Notary to say the least

Last Sunday I am working on my dairy goat ranch and I get a frantic phone call from a person desperately looking for a Notary. Apparently their house is going to close by the end of that day and the Title Company sent the people docs that needed to be notarized by that evening or the sale of the house would fall through. I said fine come out to my ranch as I had a doe that was going to be giving birth at any moment. He said that he would and he did. However it took him about 3 hours to get out to my house and by that time my goat was having her 3 kids. Unfortunately she was also having problems delivering and when he got there I was in her helping to turn around a breech baby. He waited patiently and we laughed when the signing and the delivery were over as he was from the city and had never witnessed a goat giving birth.
I really should write a book on the wierd notaries that I have heard about and seen personally.
Have a great May and of course an even better end of the month.

So what do you have, Nubians, Alpines, Appenzellers,

Togenburgs??? I Love goats and have some Alpines, they are actually pets but most people think its weird to have goats for pets but goats are the greatest. Do you make cheese?? I make cheese but there is a goat dairy just down the coast from me that I recently did the signing for their loan to expand their dairy and they make the best cheese. I make the fresh cheese since they rarely last long.

Re: So what do you have, Nubians, Alpines, Appenzellers,

I have a herd of 20 goats with 5 Saanen and 15 nubians, not including this years kids that haven't been born yet. I just sell "pet milk" as I am pretty busy to make cheese but maybe one of these days I can slow down enough to try it. My friend makes cheese and it tastes great.

mtnotary~~Goat milk, not just for cheese anymore~~OT

As you probably know, goat milk makes great soap. It's very rich. In case any of your customers make soap with it...

Here's a tip...If you don't freeze it first, the chemical reaction with the caustic/lye makes for a lovely shade of yellow or golden. So, if the soapmaker wants a whiter soap freeze it into ice trays, dump it into a bag and thaw when ready to use.

You might have already known that...but had to put my two cents worth in on what I know about goats and their milk. :0)

Well, that and I knew that "Heidi" drank goat milk and also ate goat cheese with her grandfather up in the Alps.

And finally, my last tidbit of goat trivia...I saw a very young baby goat on Saturday. My goodness, it was so precious and so tiny that it was hardly bigger than a large chihuahua. Lambs were there also and likewise for them.

If I had goats and put up their milk for sale, I'd name my business "Goat Milk?"

----

Have a great day everyone.

I feel very blessed today as I dodged a bullet in the bad weather here in Texas in the wee hours. Early this morning 'round 3 am, several blocks southwest of me the middle school was struck by a tornado.

It didn't do horrible damage except to a couple of classrooms but it was close enough to me that my dogs were well aware that something dangerous was passing through. The notary dog insisted on sleeping square on top of me...all 45 pounds of her. I don't think she was afraid for herself, I think she was being protective. Quite unlike her to want to be near anything while she's sleeping.

Alpines and an occasional nubian that someone gives away

because they don't want to have a goat anymore. Cheese is actually quite easy to make, I use rennett and have fresh cheese in a matter of hours, and I have control of the amount of salt that gets added. I'm allergic to cows milk but no problems with goat milk. Besides they are such nice animals, I just have a problem keeping Spike, my buck, off the roof of the boiler room. My grandmother used to keep goats and I guess that got me started. I've been quite lucky and not really had any problems with my does. MY herd is not quite up to 15 (11 currently) but there are some kids on the way. They are great for keeping the blackberry bushes in check and the pastures in check. In my area we have a problem with Himalaya berries (a species of blackberry with huge seeds, they are sweet and make a great wine when fermented with Montrachet) for some reason when the goats chew down the Himalaya berry bushes the bushes do not continue to grow. Saanens are a very pretty large goat but I have always liked Alpines.

I did a signing in Chicago last night, where place smelled..

like they raised goats in the kitchen, but it could have been
something else.

Re: We have pet goats, too!

We have a Nigerian Dwarf dairy goat and 3 Pygmy. (We bought one pygmy and were surprised to see babies in the pen one morning, 3 months later!) They are GREAT pets!

ROFLMAO, I remember well when my brother thought

it would be cool to get a "pet goat" because then he'd never have to mow the back yard. It was a hoot when the goat ate his back door and went inside to make himself comfortable!

Re: ROFLMAO, I remember well when my brother thought

This is exactly how we ended up with goats. My husband woke up one Sautrday morning and decided to buy a goat. We have a huge slop behind the house which is too steep to mow - so he figured he'd go buy a walking brush cutter! I never laughed so hard. We had no fencing, no shelter, nothing. He was gone within an hour of waking up with his bright idea. A few hours later, he came back with TWO female brush cutters. took him all day, but he put up a fence, shelter, etc. (And, as I posted earlier, one of them gave birth to two more.) NONE of them stay in their fenced area. Every morning their out and banging their heads on the basement door. (My poor mother in law woke up to find them staring at her through the bedroom window on her first visit to our new home - scared the living daylights out of her!)

We moved to Ky from Calif., so I guess we are farmer wannabes now. LOL
