ID for an Inmate

I have searched the boards for proper ID of an inmate. When the inmate was taken into custody he did not have an ID. Can I use his Inmate Tag as proper Identification in the state of California? This is my first time going to a jail.

Thanks

CA notary handbook is very clear what you can use for an inmate... I have read about it in the past but have not had an in-custody signing....

gl 2 you

Salvador, I do notarization at the local jail...

all the time. Identification is always a problem. This is a not a state or federal institution so they do not have a Department Of Corrections ID, only a booking sheet. Sometimes they will have an ID in their property, sometimes a relative can produce their ID, I have even used a couple of jail officers as credible witnesses and sometimes I cannot do the notarization for lack of ID. The name braclet is not enough.
