Just Starting Out
I'm sure that all of you have been in the "Notary Signing" business for a long time. Well, I haven't. I've been a California notary for several years for the engineering company that I worked for. But, life has a way of changing things. I'm looking to not be at this company any more. How did you all start with the "Notary Signing" business? I would love to be able to start this since I'm already a regular notary. I would assume I need to still need to to the signing classes. But, how do you get clients? I can start notarizing items besides real estate docs now.

And don't quit your day job until/unless you can replace your income!!! This is a very tough time to be breaking into this business in most areas, especially in saturated markets, which includes most of the populated areas of California. There are some folks who have been doing this for years who are now looking for something else to do. One of the experienced pros here said a while back that the pie is shrinking and there are more and more people at the table. Very true!
I'm not trying to be a pessimist, I'm just trying to add some perspective to the overly rosy picture being painted in some classes and by some organizations who make money by marketing their programs and materials - not by actually being signing agents... I hate to see people being misled and hurt financially by those tactics. I recommend you research this very carefully before you make any major financial decisions, then make up your own mind.
