Nations Direct Issues

Anyone else have issues with Nations Direct? I've tried very hard to accomodate them in the past even though their standard fee is $40 (which barely covers the cost of gas). Last night I received a call on my Mobile phone at about 8:30 p.m. I had just returned from another closing 70 miles away from my home office and was processing the paperwork. They asked me to do a closing for them that night at 10:00 p.m. I declined. I received 5 more phonecalls from them, each time I declined and tried to offer solutions. The last phonecall was after 10:00 p.m. offering me "any fee". Again, I declined and asked that they don't call me again. I was and am very frustrated with this company, both because of there unwillingness to negotiate fees and because of this incident. I don't think I'll be doing any more work for them.

ND isn't that bad--just don't take their $40 any more. Say no unless they meet your fee. You may be surprised.

I do say NO often. I have taken the $40 fee, if I'm already in the area doing another closing and its Overnight Docs or docs to the borrower, because I like to be accomodating. Maybe I've been too accomodating in the past and thats why they feel they can call me 6 times after I've already said NO. Thanks for your response.

Re: Nations Direct Issues-Jenny

There was a post from someone else on them about a week or so ago. You might be interested in reading it and the responses this person received. Do a search on Nations Direct and it should come up for you. Once you take these signings from them for that amount they will continue to think thats what your always going to charge no matter what. I think the comment made on the other posting was about them not being very flexible when it came to this issue.
Hope this helps.

you have established with them that you are a $40 notary so

of course they will call you... they found a notary willing to to do their work for free

even if you are in the area, the cost of printing the docs makes that a total gift to them

shame on you for accepting $40 fees

No kidding. I love the reasoning people come up with to allow themselves to be screwed.

Jenny, you need to worry less about being "accommodating" and more about being "a competent businessperson". Taking $40 signings for any reason is revolting, and it's people with your mentality that have turned this industry into the joke that it's become.

That would be kinda like an Abstractor saying 'oh, well, I'm going to the courthouse to research another title, anyway.' Don't think like that.

AVOID NATIONS DIRECT

Low pay. Last minute cancels. Send additional documents late. Blah, Blah, blah. I walked into an extremely hostitle situtation when a previous notary did not show up. ND did not tell me it was the second appointment of the day. Borrower took it out on me and refused to pay. Then ND refused to pay me anything. Borrower told me all about it after I did a rush print and went to meet the client.

Packages are huge verse most lenders. It does not seem like they know what they are doing. When in doubt, have the client fill every form on earth out.

You would be better off sending an hour or two developing marketing material and calling on local title companies.
