Notarizations for relatives

My Mom & sister asked me to notarize a document for them. Is it OK to notarize this document if I don't have any interest in it?

What does the CA notary handbook say?

Oh never mind here it is, straight from the book.

A notary public is not prohibited from notarizing for relatives or others, unless doing so
would provide a direct financial or beneficial interest to the notary public. With California’s
community property law, care should be exercised if notarizing for a spouse or a domestic partner.

Re: Thanks....

Even though you are allowed to notarize for family members, it is better not to.
I have an agreement with another notary in my area, she will notarize for my family members and I will notarize for hers.
