OT - Photos of my daughters first Event

My daughter did her first USEA recognized event last weekend. It is a really big deal for her as she wants to go to the Olympics some day. The goal was just to get through it, not get hurt or come off her horse, try to calm her nerves and not worry about ribbons. There were 35 people in her division, and she ended up winning a 7th place ribbon!! Her trainer and I are so proud of her and her horse Cid (Mad Hatter).

Here are the pics the show photographer took. http://photoreflect.com/pr3/ThumbPage.aspx?r=1&e=2853078&g=03HV00CV49

Beautiful!! Your daughter is very fortunate to have a mom who supports and understands her horse loving passion. As I child, I had a strong yearning to have a horse and ride, but my parents had other priorities (roof over our heads, food, etc). I never lost my desire to ride so now, after launching my last child, I am a horseowner.

Even though I need a leg up to mount, this grandma is rockin' in the saddle. I am currently taking english riding lessons and hope to jump my gelding someday. My friends think I'm nuts. I showed my yearling in halter last month, winning the ribbon was a feeling like none other. Heck, I was happy just to conquer the hooking up the trailer and hauling feat, the ribbon was an unexpected bonus. I would post pics but can't figure out how.

Congrats to you and your daughter and keep us informed on her progress! The olympics is a great goal!

Re: OT - Photos of my daughters first Event-Blueink

I did have a horse as did my sister when we were younger and lived in OK, mine was Buck (a buckskin beauty) and my sister had Blaze, a sable. I was thrown more then once and stepped on a time or two but I will always admire this magnificent beast.

Re: Beautiful Lisa, thanks for sharing.

A horse is such a beautiful animal, the movie Electric Horseman, as dumb as I thought the movie was, it has some great film footage of horses running in pastures, shiny mane flowing, slick shiny coats. It's very relaxing for me to watch a horse run. Kudos to your daughter, she will be a horse woman all her life I bet.

Fantastic!

You must be so proud of her! I can imagine that it must be very difficult to juggle your work and committment to providing the opportunity for her riding and lessons.

Re: Fantastic!

Now that she can drive, she "hauls" the horse the 1/2 mile down the road to her lessons!!! I hate missing her lessons, but everyone wants to close between 4 and 6pm! I try to work my schedule around it, but sometimes I just can't be there. But her shows I never miss, no matter how many Saturday closings I have to turn down!

Re: Fantastic!

1/2 mile down the road - wouldn't it be easier to ride there? Or is the road busy?

Re: Fantastic!

Her other horse threw her on the side of the road last spring, and she broke several ribs, and it terrified her, so she is scared to ride on the side of the road now. Cid the new horse is much more even tempered than Nick was, she's just not ready to try yet.

Re: Great conformation and Daughter looks comfortable and

Her goals are impressive. She'd also like to go to Vet school. Since most equestrians are in their 30's for the Olympics, she may be able to do both.

I will say there is nothing like horses to keep a teenage girl out of trouble!!

Watching your daughter's pix I was reminded of a great Hallmark movie I saw not long ago (DVD).
