OT - Ridiculous Delivery People - My Staples Delivery

We've been staying with my mom off and on since my father passed away in Nov. She only lives 15 miles away, but she likes the company. I've been working out of her house for the last month. I had my usual Staples delivery today. The delivery man would not get near the front door. One of the guys fixing the dry rot around the windows came and knocked on the door to tell me that the delivery man was here, and wouldn't come to the door. I go outside, and the guy tells me he won't go to the doors because he is scared of the dogs. Ok, in the living room are my aussie and king shepherd in CRATES sleeping, and the 9lb poodle is loose. I tell the delivery guy that he can see through the window that the dogs are sleeping and in crates, how in the world are they going to get him if he leaves a box of paper on the porch? He won't leave it there. So I get him to put it in the garage, but he refuses to leave it by the garage door, and he freaks out about getting near the door. Again, dogs are sleeping in their crates, in the house, not near the garage.

I know people have irrational fears, but if it keeps them from doing their job properly, then they need a new job.

I might have a problem if there was a snarling, slavering Hound of the Baskervilles type at the front gate just witing to get at me but a 9# poodle, you've got to be kidding. I think that a call is in order to Staples. An Aussie and a King are hardly dogs to be afraid of. Does your Aussie have blue or multi-colored eyes? They are both great dogs!

The blue merle aussie has 1 brown and 1 blue eye. She is a bit hyper, and epileptic, but a great dog even with the vet bills that will take me a lifetime to payoff. The king weighs 105 pounds, and is the absolute sweetest animal I have ever owned. If someone broke in, he'd carry the loot to the car for the burglars. The poodle is a little yappy, but we love him.

I don't think size matters when it comes to animals. We had a telephone repairman who would not enter our yard until I "controlled my pack of chihuahaus". Pack = 3 pups, combined weight, 17 lbs. I put them up without hesitation, after all, I didn't want him stepping on them!

I know size doesn't matter, but mine were up. They were in the house, 2 in crates, 1 free, but the guy wouldn't leave the items on the front porch because there were dogs in the house. They weren't on the porch, and he was not asked to bring them in, his instructions were to leave the items on the porch. If the dogs were out, I could have have understood his fear, but again, they were in the house, in crates, so to get at him they would have had to broken out of steel crates, and a heavy wooden door, or broken the windows on each side of the door.

Now that I've finished my taxes, I plan on calling Staples first thing in the morning. This guy should not be a delivery person.
